Best shafts-high launch / spin, mid torque, and light in A flex

Recommended Posts

Looking for best options for high launch, probably higher spin, with mid to higher torque (if there is such a thing) in A flex - and light.

What options?

So far I have one - graffaloy proloanch 44 grams uncut.

Have a Bassara w-33 which is very light and higher torque in "lite" flex but is MID flight not HIGH flight.

Found a UST MP5 that is higher launch in A flex but is heavier in 50+g and don't know anything about.

Any others?

There are a number of shafts which fit the basic design criteria you specify (e.g. grafalloy booyah, c kua 43) and another shaft might make a difference, but if you are not getting sufficiently high enough launch with the bassara w 33 a flex, the problem is most likely insufficient loft on your driver (plus a negative angle of attack, but that requires a lesson and some practice to change).

There is also one other possibility, which is you are over powering the tip of the w 33 which is contributing to the low launch you are experiencing.

Player shaft performance rarely corresponds exactly to the flight characteristics mentioned by shaft manufacturers and club manufacturers. Lighter softer flex shafts are not for everyone (even if the club head speed is low).

I recommend a back to the drawing board approach, some driver heads are easier launch (Mizuno JPX 825, Ping G25) than others and there are a number available with lofts up to 13.5 degrees (even higher lofts with component heads). Test a few and find the model and loft which gives a ballpark optimum launch, then match it up to the right shaft to fit your swing.

Best of luck.

MP5 is a great shaft! The MP4 would be a better match to your weight/torque request though.

[/quote]I looked at booyah but no A flex. Slightly lower torque I think but probably due to flex. Not sure how we translate finding a specific shaft to swing issues and lessons. It's just a factor of harder finding shafts for this smaller market segment. just looked up miyazaki c. kua (think that is what you are referring to) and they are not driver shafts and not high launch - at least what I can see from the home page. appreciate the input.

check out graphite designs fitting chart that has matrix of levels of spin versus launch height. wish we had this for driver shafts across the industry versus just one manufacturer. they also have more refined choices it seems rather than just low, high, mid for both launch and spin.

Pink, I am just trying to be helpful, after all that one of the main purposes of these forums. In my reply I assumed you have the bassara w33 a flex and you are experiencing a lower driver flight than expected.

The C Kua is not a current design it was replaced this year by the B.Asha, but it is still available (it was stock on the Cleveland Launcher).

The charts like the GD one you mentioned are not really representative of a shafts real world performance and they can't be used to compare shafts between manufacturers, because they all use different standards. This is also true of shaft flex, it is possible for one manufacturer's A flex to be stronger than another manufacturer's R flex (in fact it happens within different ranges from the same manufacturer)

If you have not done so already I would encourage you to read the series on articles on shaft design, performance and player matching. It will help you better understand the differences between shafts.

Here is a link to a couple of the articles.
