Georgia and North Carolina coming up..

So this year, I will be traveling to Thomson, Georgia (25 minutes outside of Augusta) and to Charlotte, NC for Thanksgiving(GA) and Christmas(NC.) I want to play 1 round of golf in each state, so for the locals that are around there, where can I play that's nice and not too expensive? This is all in respect to the courses being open that time of year. I'm a Floridian so, golf is year round here. :taunt:

Are you on the North side of Charlotte or the south? If you are on the south side check out Regent Park. It is actually in Fort Mill, SC, just off the I-77 Carowinds exit. The course is always in great shape and is a good, parkland layout. I played it when I was in town for the Wells Fargo Championship and the greens put Quail Hollow's to shame! Weekend prices are around $65. Also, just for kicks, you can drive to the back of the neighborhood and cross the rail road tracks to see the remains of the old Jim and Tammy Baker PTL compound.

If you are on the north side, check out Skybrook or Highland Creek. Highland is a good layout and was always one of the top courses in the area for conditioning when I lived there (pre-2005). Not sure about now, though. Rocky River up by the speedway is pretty good as well.

Where I will be staying is about 5 minutes from Piper Glen.

Belle Meade in Thomson. About 20 minutes away is Bartram Trail in Grovetown/Evans.

In Charlotte, golf at Christmas is probably 50/50 depending on the weather and what is acceptable to you. It could be in the 50's and low 60's and quite pleasant, it could be 30's and 40's and only for the stalwart.

The three best courses for conditions in Charlotte now are Red Bridge (near Locust - east of town), Verdict Ridge (north near Lake Norman), and Rocky River (at Charlotte Motor Speedway in Concord). All are worth the drive. Ballantyne Resort is close to Piper Glen, probably will be in good shape, but will definitely be more pricey than anywhere else. There is a website for Charlotte golf: Google "B Man Golf" - you can usually get current recommendations on some of the course conditions in the area.

Of the courses mentioned in one of the above posts, Regent Park is near where you will be but conditions have been spotty lately. Skybrook recently changed ownership and course conditions have improved a great deal - it is a nice layout, but it is on the north side and if you are going to make that drive hard to recommend it over Verdict Ridge or Rocky River. Stay away from Highland Creek - current owner has ruined what used to be one of the best courses in Charlotte; conditions are horrible, and that is probably giving them more credit than they deserve.

A great public golf course in Augusta is Forest Hills Golf Club. Not the most difficult, but fairly pretty and has a great history with Bobby Jones and some other PGA Tour players in their amateur days. Ross design and redone by Palmer Company.

Thanks for all of the responses guys, it looks like I'm going to do Belle Meade in Thomson, and I have lot to research and choose from in Charlotte. Love that city, eventually want to move there.
