Steve Williams to "semi-retire" at end of 2014

Steve Williams has done an interview in Australia while caddying for Adam Scott at the World Cup at Royal Melbourne saying that 2014 will be his final full season. From 2015 he will work from the Florida swing through to the Tour Championship and spend the rest of the year racing cars.

 

The article also quotes Steve saying that he would like to sit down with Tiger at some stage and have a conversation.

 

He plans to part time caddy for 5 years but may not last if he does not like it.

 

Personally - he might have been a bit boorish at times but he is obviously an amazingly talented professional caddy. Good luck to him.

If he sits down and has a conversation with Tiger, the first thing he should do is thank Tiger for paying him so well for so many years. Because without Tiger, Stevie ain't retiring and he ain't racin' no cars.

You mean the guy who steered Tiger to 13 of 14 majors wins and since the split 5 years ago Tiger has not won a major!

So how come all of a sudden he stopped winning majors . Unless he starts winning a few he will go down in history as the greatest golfer ,whilst Williams was on his bag.

I think he also worked with one other great player before TW.

His credentials are solid.

Stevie gets himself into trouble with the diarrhea of the mouth, but nobody can honestly say that Tiger did not benefit from Stevie's caddying, nor can they truthfully say that he had no influence on Tiger's success.

Well, let's look at this rationally. Do you think tiger would have employed Stevie for so long if he thought he was a racist? Do you think tiger would have had Stevie at his wedding if he was a racist? Would Stevie have showed up at the wedding if he was a racist? Would they have taken so many vacations together if Stevie was a racist? Tiger himself has gone as far to say that Stevie was in no way a racist. If tiger himself doesn't feel those remarks were racist, why do you? True racism is the feeling that your race is superior to another or a deep hatred of another race. Where did Stevie even remotely suggest this? Because he said "black a**"? Come on, that doesn't fit either criteria. I'm Asian and if Stevie had said "yellow a**" I wouldn't find that racist either. Seems the "r" word gets thrown around way too much. Just because his remark was inappropriate doesn't make it or him racist.

People that talk about Tiger's major record with Steve Williams on the bag vs. not on the bag are the same people who talk Jordan's championship record with and without Pippen. Williams and Pippen were good, but they were just carrying the right guy's bag at the right time.

That's the beauty of speculation. One will always wonder, and nobody is right or wrong. One can point to Tiger's success sans Stevie, and another can point to Adam Scott's breakthrough with Stevie.

I am inclined to believe that the right person can help just enough to push a player over the edge, but I am also not inclined to believe that Tiger's success was all because of Steve Williams.

This is the comment in question...he probably should have left out the word "black" and their would be no controversy:

On 4 November 2011, Williams made a comment that was perceived by some as being racist towards Tiger Woods. Williams was fired in mid 2011. He was on Tiger's bag during the 2003,2004,2009 majorless prescandal seasons and during the horrible post scandal 2010 season. In fact, if Tiger had not been injured in 2011, Williams would not have temp caddied for Adams Scott and may have still been on Tiger's bag to this day.

Stevie was/is a great caddy and obviously helped tiger win his majors, would Eldrick have more or less without stevie, who knows I'd maybe venture one less but who could really say. Also as good as stevie and adam have been, stevie may have costed Adam his first major, the open. Why he let him hit 3wood on 18 is beyond me. Adam was stripping driver so let him pull that and hit it over everything or give him 2 iron and let him lay back short 3 wood brought everything bad into play. Yes Adam's putting was very poor down the stretch but stevies club pull on 18 was a miscalculation at best if you ask me.

Oprah said last week, if you don't agree with the current president and his policies, you are a racist. That makes it difficult to take the term "racist" seriously these days. Maybe Stevie is more of a racist for not recognizing Tiger's Thai heritage when he uttered his statement?

I believe anyone who's narrow focus of another person involves the color of their skin, their religion, their politics... Anything at all that one person uses to label another person is racist/bigoted....

Well after racism was deemed as inappropriate by the general public, golf remained steadfast in keeping blacks away from the game. You can almost make the argument that golf was the most racist sport ever....even into the 80's.
