Approach G6 Won't Charge

After plugging in my Garmin G6 GPS charger, the GPS screen would light up and show an unidentified golf hole, but would not show charging status. I tried mashing various buttons, usually turning the unit off, kept "jiggling" the charger connection, kept unplugging and replugging the charger, but nothing worked. I finally decided to use the GPS until it totally discharged, hoping that it would then charge when reconnected. Instead, I now get nothing but a totally black screen. Anyone else have this happen to them? I guess this unit is so dated that there won't be much interest in it now, but everyone might take my difficulties as a warning if considering purchasing this unit.

13 months -- one month out of warranty, wouldn't you know.

Try using the USB cord on a computer to see if it will charge. Then call garmin.

Thank you very much for your suggestions. I tried plugging it into my computer to charge, but that still did not work. I then called Garmin and spoke to a very helpful service-person. He said that since my unit was only two weeks out of warranty that he would exchange it for no charge. I am sending it back today. He said that he has been with the Garmin service department for about 4 years and has only seen this happen 2 or 3 times, that it is not a common problem at all. My replacement unit will have a 90 day warranty, so hopefully I won't be having this problem again. Thanks again.

Great cust service. It's nice to know they stand behind their product, it is so frustrating when things die like that. Glad to hear a good story.

That is great to hear. Garmin were great when I contacted them about a wrong layout at my golf club. It was all sorted out within a couple of days which is pretty good considering I'm in New Zealand and taking into account the distance and difference in time zone. By contrast Skycaddie never responded to multiple messages I sent re wrong golf course layouts.

Garmin are an excellent company and the fact they supply GPS for hunting, hiking , cycling etc in addition to golf products ensures they won't go out of business any time soon.
