Bang for $$ in Orlando in Feb?

Recommended Posts

I know there's a lot of threads on orlando golf, but looking for best bang for the buck courses that are generally very nice conditioned, etc. will likely go through golfnow.com as well.

checking this out for a cousin who's heading down for a couple weeks in february.

i've told him to check out southern dunes for sure. also from what i remember to try that would be nice and reasonable are:

highlands reserve

remington--cheap but nice as i recall

royal st cloud.

What do you think of Stonegate, Harmony Golf Preserve(price?), Falcons Fire, and any others that are pretty nice but reasonable?

Thanks,

Stonegate is an incredible 'bang for your buck.' They have 36 holes. The Oaks course is more wide open, but it's a very good, sound course. The Cypress is a little more tighter, but it's not ridiculous. It's located in a tough to reach part of Kissimmee so there's no easy drive to get there. It's inside a 55+ year old gated community called Solivita. I think it's one of the top deals in the Orlando area.

Harmony Golf Preserve is a great course, but not exactly cheap. Johnny Miller design. More of a 'Australian Dunes' type of design. I love the back nine.

Falcons Fire is overpriced.

Depending on how far you are looking to travel, for 'bang for you buck' courses I would recommend:

Juliette Falls - This is a hike (near Ocala), but a fantastic course with usually fantastic prices. Even without the pricing, it's still a top-3 course in the area (that you can play).

North Shore - Nice TifEagle greens. The front nine is more of a 'Australian dunes' style design. Back nine is parkland style. Not too far from the airport and right down the road from Lake Nona.

Victoria Hills - This is in DeLand. Incredible and fun layout. One of the best designs in the area. Condition wise it's usually in pretty good shape in February.

Deltona Club - Usually has ridiculously low greens fees. Awesome design. Usually in so-so shape on the tees and fairways, but the greens have been good-to-excellent the past few times I played there.

Rio Pinar - Available on Golfnow. Was an exclusive, private course, now takes some public tee times. Rates usually go for around $30. They just did some much needed renovations. Designed in 1957 and used to hold the Citrus Open on the PGA Tour. Also held LPGA events there. Very classic style of course and still plays to 7,000 yards from the back tees.

Deer Island - It's out in the middle of nowhere. But another classic course that is always in good shape. You can play a round quickly there since there is usually nobody playing there.

Living here, whenever i am looking for good bang for your buckk I hit up the courses in Davenport or Clermont. In Davenport my favorites are Providence and Highlands Reserve. Ridgewood Lakes is nice too. In Clermont Legends and Sanctuary Ridge are my favorites. Great elevation changes on the Clermont courses. All these courses can be found for great prices on golfnow.

In Orlando I recommend Eagle Creek out by the airport. One of my favorite Orlando courses and reasonably priced.

Falcon's Fire is a nice course but I wouldnt call it a good bang for your buck course. I always find it to be expensive.

This time of year doesn't lend itself to bang your for buck like other times of year. To get deals you need a group, solo, or flexibility to do something last minute. Courses I was getting on for super prices (Grand Cyrpress, Orange Lake Legends etc) just a few months ago are in that bend over prices so I've been playing Rio Pinar or similar lately.

I'm not a fan of Sanctuary Ridge. It's such an incredibly difficult design to begin with and it doesn't have the resources to be in great condition and the design only makes it harder to be in good condition. To me, it had some terrific views and that was about it. And for the love of my sanity, they need to get rid of at least half of their bunkers. It's the only place I've ever seen with bunkers in the trees.

Anyway, I would also be on the lookout for Mission Inn El Campeon. Sometimes this time of year you can find a good price there. My issue with Eagle Creek is that it's on par with North Shore (and they are right next to each other) and Eagle Creek almost always has a substantially higher greens fees on GolfNow.

Ditto. Played it yesterday. The views are definitely cool. Up & down is different compared to a lot of courses in the area. Played it for second time (1st from a non joke tees 1 in for me). I feel like I'd have to play it 5-6 times to really get comfortable with some of those shots.

Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
