It is Very fast and firm and VERY WINDY! I asked my member about the pics he said no problem. He is on the board so I guess he will not get in any trouble. Reese Jones was out there I guess he is doing the course next season. The bunkers were unreal.

I pray that Rees Jones does not TOUCH Seminole. There are lots of architects that would respect Ross' work and do a much better job (Doak, COore and Crenshaw, Hanse, Prichard, Forse and others)

Rees Jones tends to leave his mark on all the courses he works on. He tends to change the golf course even if in some cases like Bethpage only a little. Seminole is a textbook case of perfect routing of golf holes and utilization of the two dunes ridges on the property to their maximal potential. The bunkering has a characteristic look and playability and the greens are perfectly pitched and contoured to take into account the exposure to the Ocean breezes (winds). It is a landmark in golf course architecture that needs to be PRESERVED. Doak, COore and Crenshaw, Hanse, Forse and Prichard (a Ross restoration expert) have a track record of PRESERVATION when they work on golf courses built and designed by others.

 

If you look at Rees' work on a Ross course, East Lake, you will see that it is no longer really a Ross course. It is a Rees course using much of the Ross hole corridors. Congressional is all changed from the original. Torry Pines is a Rees course now and not Billy Bell. I could go on and on. Now the members at any private club can do as they wish but touching Seminole would be a crime.

There is no room to lengthen Seminole anyway. Look at the aerial in Google Earth (Vero Beach area right on the water).

 

My best guess is that Rees is not going to do any work at Seminole. He was probably visiting on a little Florida vacation or looking at a new course job somewhare nearby. He's a member at National Golf Links of America, Maidstone and others and quite well connected. I'm sure he's welcome at Seminole for a game or to visit when he wishes and I'm equally sure the membership knows the gem they have and will preserve it.

I think that Reese Jones dies good work on the old links type florida style courses, he wouldn't dare kill suck a sweet course.

Seminole's locker room is amazing. I agree that some of Seminole's holes might be considered short for today's standards. I was there last April, and my caddy mentioned that JB Holmes played there last winter and he drove the par 4 second hole. But...it is pretty cool that the course record of 60 still belongs to Claude Harmon who shot it in the 1950's.
