Strengthening lofts for new blades?

Recommended Posts

I am switching back to muscle back blades...

I have been playing Cleveland CG4 Tours and the Cleveland CG2 for the past couple years...

The lofts of the blades I will be getting are 2-3 degrees weaker than what I have been playing...

Obviously manufactures make the lofts weaker due to the higher center of gravity, but I still struggle with thinking about a 49 pitching wedge...

I want to strengthen the lofts at least one degree, maybe two...

Are there any disadvantages or reasons why I shouldn't strengthen the lofts by 2 degrees or more?

Your insight would be much appreciated...

when i first got my blades i really wanted to get them made stonger because 49 seemed way to weak but just keep at it for a little while and youll get it, trust me when i say that you will not loose distance. it just takes some time to get used to. you dont want to change them and then be hitting your pw too far

I have a question that might answer yours. why strenghen them? just get used to that 1 club differance or whatever. it will also make your wedge gaps- gap sand, lob or whatever- better cause you'll not have a 46 degree pitching wedge. I still dont get why Titleist 695 cbs have such low lofts. It's all mental if you ask me. I dont care if my pitching wedge has 40 degrees of loft or 50. i'll just buy my set according to the loft, not the assigned #. I try to think of all my clubs minus the putter w/o an assigned #. Just buy the lofts you want. This way strengthening them is never an issue. My 2 cents.

Just get used to the new numbers. I use a 50 degree pitching wedge (weakened a bit) because that's what I'm used to. I play regularly with a guy who hits his 46 degree pitching wedge 145. I hit mine about 130 max. So what? 145 for me is a 9 iron. The number on the bottom means nothing to me.

to Bjackson;

The lofts are stronger on the 695 cb's specifically for the golfer who has a very, ballooning ballflight. From what I understand, it is targeted more at today's younger, stronger golfer, who are more athletic and fit (i.e., top-level juniors and college players). Titleist researched that the 'modern' player hits the ball with so much more spin and height, they actually lose distance and trajectory control. The stronger lofts, with standard bounce, is for that type of golfer. Instead of going to a Dynamic Gold X300/X100, or a Project X 7.0 (loss of feel on both parts), they can stick with a DGS300 or PJX 6.0 and not sacrifice feel.

When I hit these, I couldn't get the ball higher than my knees, but when I saw a stronger player hit it, he bought a set on the spot, because he finally found irons where he could flight the ball.

For more traditional lofts, a golfer can go towards the 695mb's, or the 735.CM's, in the Titleist line.

to jdhonger :

Sorry, i don't undrestand your point of view, strenghtening the loft to stop the ball flight ballooning ??? If this younger players have a PW wich is 46° (because 49 or 50 is too balloonig for them), then they will have to add a GW (between 50-52°), then the ballfligh of the GW will be balloning too... I'm I wrong ?

I believe Bjackson, I don't care about the number on the sole, I just believe the loft (I bought a R7 Xd 4 iron to accomoddate my MP 60 (5-PW), this club is a rocket, the longer 4 iron I own... 21° of loft... it's not a 4 iron, it's a 3 iron)
