Need help deciding between ping pioneer or sun mountain hybrid for clicgear 3.5

Recommended Posts

Hey,

I've used the same Ping Hoofer bag for many years..at least 10 or more... I recently purchased a clicgear 3.5 and I'm trying to decide which bag to go with it. I had thought about the sun mountain c130 but read about some issues related to the clicgear. I've narrowed my choices to the Ping Pioneer and the Sun Mountain Hybrid.

When I go out on the course I would mostly walk and carry unless with some buddies or a scramble. Now that I bought a clicgear, it will be push cart and walk..So 90% walk, 10% ride. I do visit the range and short game area a lot, so I guess the appeal of the Sun Mountain Hybrid and the stand legs might come in handy vs the pioneer around the range and short game areas... I'm not sure though. I don't have any oversize grips, long putters, etc.. but I am starting to carry more items than I used to...rain gear, rangefinder, cell phone, etc.

It doesn't have to fit perfect in a golf cart, I can manage since most of the time it will be on the range or clicgear that I'm worried about. Thanks!

This probably won't help, but I have the Sun Mountain Sync. It's a great bag for the 3.5 and it has a ton of room in the multiple pockets. And I've had no problems with it standing (no legs) at the range or practice green.

I actually own both the Ping Pioneer and SM Hybrid bags, and I have a Clicgear 2.0 cart. Both bags work well on the cart. The Hybrid has elastic loops to secure the legs in place, so they don't snap open on the cart (nice feature).

Storage-wise, the Pioneer has tons of pockets and would be hard to beat. The Hybrid has pretty good storage too, and I have plenty of room for what I carry.

For me, the Hybrid is a near-perfect compromise of size, weight, functionality, and storage space. The main reasons I bought the Hybrid were for the large size of the top and for the legs. I find lightweight stand bags too small unless you always carry. A regular cart bag like the Pioneer is no good around the range, practice green, or in my garage for that matter.

Using it around the range and greens is my concern with the ping pioneer, although it looks great for all the room it comes with. If I can store some raingear and a good pocket for a rangefinder, I think I might go with the hybrid. I was just reading you can order it with a dual strap in case I leave the push cart or carry...

Well I just called discount dans and they told me the sun mountain hybrid is being phased out and the c130 stand/cart bag is coming out in a couple weeks...

I really like my Pioneer. it stands up on a flat surface, so I've used it that way around practice areas and if not level, I take out the clubs I want and lay it down. For me that's no big deal.
The storage and fit on Clicgear is the best I've had.

I have a Hybrid that I ordered with a dual strap, and primarily use it on a Clicgear 3.0. Absolutely love it. It's the perfect bag for me as I feel it is equally effective on a push cart, riding cart, or on the shoulders (some feel it is too heavy to carry, but I don't think it is that bad). Plenty of storage, and an enormous top (10"). I've heard plenty of great things about the Pioneer, but I see myself using the Hybrid for many, many years to come.
