Shops in the Dallas/Fort Worth area

Hi,

I'll be in the Dallas/Fort Worth area this weekend and next week for work and was wondering what golf shops I should stop in and check out. I'll be staying at the Doral Hotel near the Texas Motor Speedway, but will have a car and have all day Saturday to kill. I'm playing Sky Creek Ranch on Sunday, but have the bulk of Saturday to kill and wanted to check out some shops. If there are any that specialize in Scotty Cameron or Japan market equipment I'd be especially interested in those.

I can't think of any that we might have that specialize in either, lots of big box stores, Golfsmith, Edwin Watts etc... Hardly ever see Japanese equipment in this area. I would spend Saturday playing Doral Tosoro, it's next to the hotel where you will be staying.

They have a PGA Superstore in Dallas. Those are supposed to be nice. Not sure how far away that is from where you will be.

Go check out Lou's Golf on Frankford in Carollton, a good selection of used equipment. It's near 190 and 35W, so a little bit of a hike from you. I would also recommend Clubfinders but it's a ways away from you at 75 and Plano Parkway, across from PGA Tour Superstore.

Have you been in Lou's lately, I was by there a couple weeks ago, seemed like the shop was almost empty. I wonder if he's started selling his stuff on ebay, the shelves were almost bare compared to the inventory he used to have, was very disappointed.

It's probably been since May, last time I was at Castle Hills.

Do you guys think the PGA Superstore is worth checking out? I'm from Hawaii and we don't have any of the big box stores down here. The largest chain we have here is Roger Dunn's. I was planning on going from the Airport, to Edwinn Watts, then Golfsmith, then Golf Galaxy, then the PGA Superstore on my way to the Allen Premium Outlets. And on my way to the Doral Hotel stop off at Steve and Barry's to check out the Bubba Golf stuff.

Superstore is huge, that's all I will really add. The Bubba Stuff is okay, pods I will say that there are many better things to do in DFW than just shop. ;)

Aloha,.......... ok If your going to Allen.......do NOT miss the PGA Superstore, nothing else compares and it is on the way, Golfsmith is a step down, and Golf Galaxy is basically the same but smaller. And yes Steve and Barry's is on the way back to Fort Worth/Doral at Grapevine Mills mall, honestly I can't tell you to waste your time going to S&B, the stuff is pretty poor quality, but it is cheap. But if you are wanting to shop, there is an Off Saks, and a Neimans Last Call where you can pick up some Ashworth/Bobby Jones/ Tehama/Tommy Bahama etc...for about half of what you pay retail, or probably 1/3 of what you pay on the islands. Hope this helps, if you're looking for someone to play with send me a PM, I can play anyday....except Sunday.....Cowboys vs. Patriots.....only game that could really trump golf. I'll be going to hawaii, in april, we have a condo/timeshare on Kauai that we try to go to every couple of years......I love the islands, hopefully they will adopt me someday. My wife and I got married at Poipu Bay 5 years ago, had a (somewhat) Hawaiian ceremony it was awesome.

And don't forget that Doral Tosoro is right next door, it's a great track that should be played, as is Sky Creek. Greg Norman did the original design for Doral, but had a few changes because it was too difficult for the average golfer, Sky Creek was designed by Mark Brooks, he has a few courses in the area that are all worth playing.

Numerous hitting bay simulators, tons of demo clubs, big indoor chipping area, big indoor putting green, launch monitors ($), and pretty much anything else you would want.

You won't find anything "exotic" (e.g., Japanese clubs, bags) but they have a huge inventory of the standard offerings of clubs, shoes, clothes, accessories, etc.

Thanks for the tips guys. I had fun checking out all the big box golf shops. I agree about the quality of the stuff at Steve and Barry's and Bubba Golf. I did pick up a couple pairs of shorts to try out though. For $15 each it was worth a shot. Played Sky Creek today and it was awesome. A great layout that was tough but fair. Now I know why you guys said that the driver would stay in the bag a lot. Knowing what I know now, next time I play there I probably won't hit driver at all. From the gold tees it's not really needed on any hole. Shot an 84, not bad for losing 4 balls, 3 of those when I hit driver, and the first time on a course. I've played Doral many times in the past and agree that it is a fun track as well.
