Callaway new ball, no more Tour 56?

Ace In The Hole

Recommended Posts

I was talking to my local pro, and he was just at a show, and said that Callaway was coming out with a new ball this coming year, and he made some inclings that the HX Tour 56 may be dropped? Can anyone confirm, or shed a little light on this? I am in love with the 56 and as much as I'd hate to see it go out I would love to pick up 10 or 15 dozen at blowout prices!!!

I don't think so...I think their new line of balls is going to including a new version of both the HX Tour and Tour 56. I think they're supposed to be called something like...the X and iX I think? Something along those lines.

I believe they are coming out with the HXI and HXIX along with the HX Hot Bite all on January 15th. I fairly certain that one will replace the Tour, the other the 56, and the last the Hot.

Almost, the bite is coming out as an addition to the hx hot. And Ace that "hit and stick from anywhere" is actually like urethane :clapping: But yes, the hx series is being replaced.

you must not have played the t56. It has a very soft cover. Yes it is made of urethane like all other good golf balls just softer.

Riiight, you must not have an understanding of how golf balls work. I love to play the 56 (It's currently the only ball in my bag), but the whole stopping from anywhere aspect comes from the urethane cover. The flying a long way aspect comes from polybutadiene a synthetic rubber.

"Callaway are testing a new golf ball they say could make a big difference to our games.

The prototype golf ball, the Callaway Tour iX has a distinctive and quite different feel to that of a traditional top quality ball such as the Titliest Pro V1."

...from Todays Golfer.

I have found new callaway golf ball from japan site. I am not sure if this ball is the new ball coming at next year in USA or not. FYI.

http://www.callawaygolf.jp/index.html

Name : Hyper E.R.C. --> I can not read japanese language, but just check out "Campaign and event".

I actually have some of the Japanese Hyper ERC balls, this ball would most likely fall into a upper mid-level ball in the US. I think its more designed for distance. It does feel decently soft and has some nice spin on Irons and wedges. I would put it on par with Titleist NXT Tour (at least the previous generation, I haven't played the 07 model).

The Hyper ERC uses the dimple in dimple technology from the new Top Flite balls, except the outer dimple is a Hex like other Callaway Balls. The inner dimple is so small I can't till if its suppose to be a hex or a circle (looks like an oval to me). I will try and post a pic up later.

The prototype pics of the new HX Tour i and HX Tour ix that are floating around the net don't have the dimple in dimple.

I hope the new line of premium balls for next year last longer than the tours... I love the HX Tour, but the cover scuffs up quickly and I don't have that kind of money to keep buying them...

I have played the 56 my last few rounds. Generally I like the ball, but the cover is beaten up in 6 or 7 holes, and that is landing it in the grass. I agree, durability is an issue.

you ever think the grooves might affect the ball in some way?

Yes, but at $40 a dozen every other ball I have played is much more durable. Again, I like the 56, but needing 3 or 4 per round just simply from regulur play to me is an issue. Oh, and my irons are 10 years old, so the grooves are not as agressive as they once were.
