M1/M2 vs. R1 driver?

I still game an R1 driver. And although it seems like I haven't had it that long, apparently it is like 2389293 models old now. I haven't actually gone anywhere and hit the new M1/M2 driver, but I have heard a few buddies swear by them, then read a couple reviews. I plan to stop by and hit a few later this week, but bored at work and curious what others have to say... money aside for a moment, is it worth it to upgrade from an R1? has technology really gotten better in these new clubs?

No technology hasn't gotten better. I do think the M2 feels better then the R1 (had a V2) and looks better. Either way, bring your R1 and hit it side by side, try a few shafts out as TM has a pile of no charge offerings this year.

The M1 is far better than the R1. The M1 allows most people to create more club head speed due to it's composite crown, which makes the head lighter. I found the M1 to spin much less than most other drivers. The 430 head spins even less but if you don't find the middle of the club almost everytime, then purchase the 460 model. M1 is a beast. I found the M2 a shade too light in swingweight to hit consistently.

The M series drivers are an improvement from the R1, in both looks and performance.

If you played w/ your adjustability a lot, the M1 would be the route to go. It feels phenomenal on center strikes, and will help you out quite a bit on off center hits.

If you didn't play with the weight tracks, M2 is more forgiving/high launching and seems to have equal distance to the M1.

The R1 was the first TM driver I've ever used, and I personally don't believe it's in the same conversation as M1 or M2.

As for technology, no it hasn't gotten better. They've added some forgiveness to off center hits, but if all things are identical and you put an R1 and M1 in Iron Byron's hands (or whatever a robot grabs with), I'd put money on them going very similar distance.

Rick Shiels did a great side by side comparison of the two, basically concluding they go the same distance - so it's all about adjustability preferences.

Shaft will be more important than anything when it comes time for you to demo these two. Hzrdus, Speeder's, Rogue's are just a few no upcharge shafts to look into.

The M series look a lot better, and also feel significantly better. When I'd pure one with the R1, it was still that muted "thump" that didn't really feel like you caught it. When I center one up on the M1 it almost feels like you're hitting a bouncy ball and just compressing the **** out of it.
