SKYCADDIE GPS vs. BUSHNELL Rangefinders

Recommended Posts

Which do you own? And which do you like better? Pros/Cons of either unit?

Personally I have the Skycaddie SG4 GPS, and I love it! The yardages are very accurate. The feature I like most is front and carry yardages of fairway bunkers/hazards/OB. It takes alot of the guess work out of it. A CON to my GPS is that not every course is avaiable. All and all a great product.

have used both...laser rangefinder but not on golf course :russian_roulette: but have SG3. It all boils down to what you need and what you prefer. If all you want is distances to a visible point then laser ranger is great choice.

if you might want layup distances, hazards, distance left to green from target in fairway, green information due to your angle on green then you might want a GPS. Lots of choices out there. I prefer the SG3...good accuracy and information provided on their 4-star mappings but accuracy is dependent on how many satellites you are able to get on the given day. 5-6 you will have great accuracy either pinpoint or within couple feet......3-4 satellites due to location, terrain or poor weather and it might be measured in yards not feet.

Good luck...

Search function would really help you in this area. Bushnell Pinseeker 1500 is the GREATEST and most ACCURATE device on the planet, I would not consider using anything else and I have owned the SG 2, SG 3, and SG 4 Skycaddies. With the Bushnell you don't have to load anything, pay an annual fee, and it can be used at any location, nuff said.

yeah but it could not have told me how far I needed to carry the water hazard that was not visible from my position and how much it left me for a shot at the green if I cleared it.....I think I like the course management options the best in the thing. Almost like having a personal caddie that has walked the course and marked, drawn, and investigated every option for you prior to the big round.....just we dont have caddies like the pros so this is the next best thing. LOL

windy as hell here today but still decent golf day even with all the rain lately...but going to be in 20s at night for next few days so courses will be all frozen and frosted over.

I've owned both the Pinseeker 1500 and SG3 and I stuck with the SG3. I like knowing yardages to carry water, bunkers, etc... that I couldn't get a read on with my 1500. I also like being able to mark my location, hit a shot, and then when I get to my ball I can see how far I hit it. I used this feature a lot when I got my new clubs to help learn my yardages. Both are great tools but I opted for the SG3.

OK - I've played 5-1/2 rounds with my new SG4 (since Christmas) and here is what I have found:

Course management info is far better and easier with the SG4, such as how far to lay-up on a blind par 5, or how far to hit a blind tee shot on a par 4, or how far to the water. It also gives distance to bunkers, distance to carry bunkers, distance to 100yds on par 5's, dist. to end of fairway on doglegs, etc.

Laser gives you distance to pin more accurately, but I can usually determine within 2 yards from the Skycaddy info.

Today, I only pulled out the Bushnell one time for exact distance to a front pin from about 60 yards.

Summary - The Bushnell now belongs to my wife. It's a great unit, but now I have more info, even if a little less accurate, at a quick glance. I'll stay with the SG4.

And I'll bet you found out you weren't hitting it as far as you thought! :russian_roulette:

I have the SG4 and love it. I find it very accurate and it definately helps me play quicker. I have a buddy who is a pro who used the pinseeker in a local tournament this summer. I followed him for a few rounds and noticed him taking 2 or 3 times to get yardages. My other buddy was caddying for him and said they both had a hard time getting good yardages (This course is the most hilly course in thr area). Long story short, He got the new SG5 and said he is done with the laser. The Skycaddie is just too quick and accurate to mess with anything else, IMHO.

Actually, the opposite. I have horrible depth perception over 100 yards. A shot that I thought went 150 would really be 170, etc...

I have the Bushnell Medalist and could not be happier. I can usually find the yardage to the pin within a few seconds with the pinseeker and know that it is an exact yardage. My dad has an SG5 and he loves it too. Either one is great just depends how quick/accurate you want it to be.
