2008 TaylorMade Tour Preferred irons

Hi all,

I've been playing a set of TaylorMade Tour Preferred irons from around 2008 for about 6-7 years now. They're awesome irons, but I'm going to need to get a new set soon (current set is extremely worn.) I'm sure I could dig around the internet and try to find another set; however, I'm looking to upgrade to a newer line of irons.

For those who have played these irons, or know much about them, is there a new line of irons that you'd recommend me looking at that would be an easy transition from the Tour Preferred irons? Looks like there are a bunch of attractive irons that have been released as of late. Thanks a lot

It's tough, those and the r7 TP are what I use and there's nothing I've found that has the same mix of a longer blade length, beveled off top line, nice offset "flow", and very forgiving. Really that generation of taylormade irons just looks "right" and makes it hard to switch for people like me who are picky.

If I had to point you in a direction, I would look at the Adams CMB from like 2012. Similar shape, but slightly more of a blade style and not quite as forgiving.

RSI TP irons also look nice but again aren't as forgiving, but more forgiving than CMB slightly, but don't feel as good.

I'm a huge fan of the Cobra Fly-Z+ Forged irons. Great tech, feel, performance, and looks. Only complaint is that the shorter irons (8-GW) have that more spadey triangular look whereas the TM are more round. But definitely worth checking out.

Also, if you're looking for something more GI and stronger lofted, check out Nike Vapor Fly Pro. The design is totally changed from the previous generation and they have a very pleasing shape reminiscent of our Taylormades but just chunkier.

The other club I would look at is the Bridgestone J15 CB

I don't think you'll like the look of anything from Callaway, Mizuno, or Ping

Honestly trying to find a newer set of your same irons really isn't a bad idea. You're certainly not sacrificing anything, trust me!

From what I know, the 2008 TP Irons are cast that should be very durable. I guess you practiced and hit a million balls and rounds to get them beat up that bad...great irons..

Try out what's available now and decide for yourself.

I second the rsi TP. They are great. I find that they are very forgiving in a nice head shape.
