KBS Tour V vs. Tour 90

The new Hogan Equalizer wedges have peaked my curiosity. I've never played KBS shafts. I've always played TTDG or Apex shafts. Teach me the ways of KBS shafts.

Choice on this one is fairly simply to me.. if you are a very high spinner of the ball and want to temper it a bit go with the Tour-V if you want extra spin and height go with the Tour 90. There is about 5-8 grams difference depending on whether you go R or S flex. If you want an X-Flex for some reason then you have not choice (I think) but to go with the Tour-V.

There is always the KBS Tour 105 also. A little heavier than the Tour 90, in stiff it is 110 grams pre-cut. Supposed to be mid-high launch/mid-high spin. I think the profile of this shaft is very close to the Nippon NS Pro 1050. I haven't hit it yet to compare, but that is what I have read.

Isn’t the difference between the Tour 105 and the Tour-V pretty negligible, especially in stiff?

Maybe so, but I think feel is different for everybody. To me, the Tour V feels pretty stout/stiff, I think that the Tour 105 would feel a little bit smoother.

When I check the Ben Hogan website the Tour 105 is not an option for pre-order on their new wedges.

Yes, you are correct about that. Hogan only offers three different shafts for irons and wedges that I am aware of. KBS Tour V, KBS Tour 90, and UST Recoil 660/680. I was just responding to the ops question at hand regarding KBS shafts. He doesn't have to get the Equalizer wedges, with so many options out there.

Email them and Instagram your displeasure.

I have done both and all they do is thank me for my input. It’s pathetic that they aren’t offering true wedge shafts in the Equalizers. Since they have a KBS contract they should AT LEAST stock the 610, perhaps the hi rev, certainly the standard tour 120.

They also should offer recoil 110 and 125 for heavier graphite options since they have a UST contract.

I happen to really like my 120x Tour V’s in my PTx irons but I don’t really want that shaft in a wedge. I suppose if I had no choice I would ask for an 8 iron 120X tour V shaft in them. Soften it just a bit but stay with the same weight. I don’t know If they would even take a custom soft step order.

I even asked if they’d just sell me a head only at a discount and I’d shaft it myself. Didn’t even get an answer on that. As much as I likethe product I still don’t like how they are being run.

If you’re reading this Scott White, I’m going to keep complaining until you make other shafts available. I know that you’re on this forum periodically.

Edit....I just realized I don’t answer you question. Obviously the tour V is heavier. It’s also much lower spin. If you’re looking for spin, the Tour V is not the choice. It’s great on my irons because I need a spin killer.

It was my understanding that KBS 90 were high launching and Tour-V were low-mid launching?

KBS Tour 90 is mid/high launch with mid spin. KBS Tour V is mid/low launch with low spin. For a wedge the Tour 90 will give you a slightly softer feel, I don't think you'll have any problem keeping your trajectory down as the Tour 90 doesn't have a kick along the lines of a Nippon NS Pro 950 or TT XP105/115. I would try to match up the weight you have in your iron shafts. If you are playing a 105g iron shaft then go for the Tour 90, if heavier go for the Tour V.
