Greetings from Norway

Hi all,

Been a lurker for a while on the site and forums, and decided about time to join and partake in the banter.

Bit of background - 46 yr old Indian guy, whose hometown is in Trondheim Norway, but currently in Lyon, France until this summer. Learnt to play the game when I was a teenager in Zambia, and then played a crazy amount while at University at Virginia Tech (Go Hokies!). Took a hiatus from the game from about 2002 to 2014 after moving to the Netherlands and Norway after my studies - too expensive, too poor, family, kids - the usual reasons and started again once the kiddos got bigger. Handicap was on it’s way down, got to about an 11 before I got into a bad mountain bike wreck in September 2017 where I completely shattered my left forearm and elbow. 3 operations later and with some extra bits and pieces still in the arm (shattered radial head, and snapped the forearm), was able to swing again last summer but handicap is on its way up. I vividly recall telling my surgeon - I don’t care what you have to do, but please let me swing a golf club :-).

Looking to buy a new set to compensate for my arm, and have been looking at golfbidder.co.uk for some deals. Will start exploring the French golfing landscape after the ski season, so will be asking for tips and help on both these matters. Back in Norway in July and the short short cold cold golf seasons.

Enjoy the site and the banter and information - kept my spirits up while I was recovering and just grateful that I can still play.

Apprciate the welcome. Been travelling a bit these past couple of weeks between Norway and France due to work.

As for the arm, it’s ok and usable, but not 100% back to normal. Doctors did warm me not to expect that since it was a pretty bad break, and basically said I was lucky not to get nerve damage. I’m not complaining one bit as I can pretty much do most of what I did before with a couple of caveats - don’t fall LOL.

Am mainly trying to figure out how to compensate for the arm, and notice that my fade/slice is back after I worked really hard to work to get away from my out-in plane. I’m fortunate enough that I play with some really good players who give me feedback but don’t tell me what to do, they let me figure that out for myself. I will probably get some lessons again this summer once I know what my arm can and can’t do so I can tell the instructor what my limitations are and work with them and not fight them.
