wrist set

I've been struggling with my ball striking as of late. When I turn and let my wrist work naturally, I seem to have solid contact with weak limited power. If I use an early wrist set, when I strike the ball, I'm getting compression that I don't get otherwise. There is a full club to club and a half difference between the two. The early wrist set is less consistent for me because it's more of a handsy swing. Does anyone have advice on how to blend the two?

It’s less consistent because it’s new, not because it’s wrong. Changes are always inconsistent at first. No offense intended but these kinds of thoughts are the biggest reason ams don’t improve.

Waggle the club to get a preview of the hand action. Check out some of the old times like Hogan, Snead or Nelson on YouTube.

There are a lot of different ways to set the wrists. I can think of great players who set their wrists right off the ball, gradually during the back swing, and even at the very end of the back swing. From this I conclude that there is no one right way to set the wrists, although perhaps there is a best way for you. To find your best way let your ball flight be your guide. Which works for you?

As to consistency Monte is exactly right. Consistency comes over time with repetition, lots of repetition. I've never heard of a method that makes you immediately consistent as soon as you adopt it. Most players don't improve much because they abandon what they are doing before they have put in enough reps to know whether it works or not.

Thx for the advice. I'm going to try more of a wrist set ,then turn combo.

As you rotate your left forearm and rotator cuff rotate. Hold a club in your left hand in the position it would be if you're addressing a drive. Now turn to your right and watch the action of your left forearm, rotator cuff and the effect they have on the shaft, club head and club face. You are now putting the club on the proper plane.

Pro-tip: Don't fight against your natural physiology.
