Destin Golf Trip - Burnt Pine?

Recommended Posts

Going on another golf trip to Destin later this month and would like to try to play Burnt Pine. I understand it's private and you can play there if you stay on some property there but I have a buddy who lives in Destin so we're staying there. Any other ways to get on? I am a member of a semi-private course here in KC so not sure if I can go the route of having my pro call them. Any advice is greatly appreciated!

I played there about 2 1l2 years ago, when I was staying at the Sandestin Resort, however, I do not remember them asking me where I was staying. I called the Pro Shop and get on as a single. Have you tried just calling the Pro Shop? I called a few weeks in advance since I had planned on playing there as well as at Camp Creek (which did require me to stay at a specific hotel in order to get on) No requirement I remember to play at Regatta Bay.

if I remember correctly they offer several tee times to the public. Not sure about weekends but I would call ahead to make sure but don’t think it will be a problem.

We didn't end up playing Burnt Pine. The weather wasn't great for this trip and we just couldn't justify paying $159 to play in unseasonably cold and windy weather for Destin. We ended up paying $105 to play Bay Point Nicklaus for their all you can play all day special and got in a little over 36 holes there on the day we were planning to play Burnt Pine (Thursday). So cold in the morning...around 40 when we teed off with 15-20 wind. Felt like I was playing in KC. I did ask if they had a replay rate and they said it was $80 so we probably would've done that for our 36...if only the weather were better.

If you're looking for other suggestions I'd suggest these:

Windswept Dunes - in Freeport so about 45 mins or so from Destin but worth the drive. Very nice course with large fairways and greens but it can be a challenge. We have gone to Destin in late Feb the last two years and we have been on a flight that lands at 12:30 and we head straight to Windswept which is a 30 min drive from the Panama City airport.

Indian Bayou - located in Destin and it's a very underrated course IMO. Looks very tree lined but it's far more enjoyable than you might think. Greens are some of the best in Destin hands down and it was probably the greenest course we played this year (Windswept Dunes, Indian Bayou, Regatta Bay, Bay Point). We actually ended up playing this for our 2nd round and went back for another 36 our final day there. You can get on for $60 before 9AM I believe through teeoff.com and replay rate is only $37.

Regatta Bay or Kelly Plantation - both claim to be the best course in Destin but I feel like they're pretty similar overall. Regatta just replaced all of their greens last summer so they're definitely on the firm and slow side right now. If that bothers you, pay a little more to play Kelly Plantation. They have $59 rates after 1:00 but you have to book them well in advance as they seem to be the first times to go this time of year. It's $99 in the morning right now. We got a $40 prepaid deal on teeoff.com to play Regatta so we went that route. It's a nice layout but we did have some issues with the greens.

The Other Sandestin Courses - I've played Raven and Baytowne and I've read that the Links isn't that great. I thought Raven was better than Baytowne but both didn't have me clamoring to go back this year. We would've for the right price but didn't find it this trip. You can get decent hot deals if you catch them right. Raven does have a nice island green hole if that's something that piques your interest.

Blackstone - Another haul from Destin but it's worth it if you can find the right price. The conditioning isn't the best around but not at the level that would deter me (at least it wasn't last year when we played it). We tried to play there this year but they were super busy for some reason...something about a bus coming from Destin. Last year we got a $25 hot deal morning time and it was well worth that. Totally different style course from what you usually see in Florida. Lots of large hills and a fair amount of blind shots. Again, not something you usually see in Florida. Highly recommend if you can get a decent deal and don't mind a drive. Also, they have Golfboards and those things are a lot of fun if you've never done it.

Also, I did call and asked if they had public tee times. I was told they do before 8AM and after noon and it's $159 and replay is half that price. The guy didn't mention anything about having to stay at the resort.

If you want the closest, the Sandestin courses would be your best bet. I think the order of preference of most is Burnt Pine, Raven, Baytowne, Links. I believe that's also the order of highest priced to lowest priced at Sandestin. You can find GolfNow hot deals on all but Burnt Pine. Indian Bayou wouldn't be too far for you either.

We didn't end up playing it but all you have to do is call. They have tee times available to the public....just not the prime times when I called so maybe super early AM or afternoon.
