greatest putter?
I know that Brad doesnt play that much anymore and works as a commentator occasionaly. But I just have to say that he has to be one of the best putters I have ever seen, can you imagine how much he would win if he could hit the ball as well as say, sergio? what are your thoughts on this?

Certainly one of the most admired. How can anyone use the term "greatest"?

Crenshaw is a great putter, but I think Faxon really had a love for putting more than anyone else, he seemed to focus more on that and it was his strength, which he exploited. his stroke was so smooth and it looks like he never struggles, most players I've seen will have days that the putter isnt on, and not that Faxon doesnt have those days, but it just seems like he isnt as off

Faxon is absolutely a fine putter, but part of what would define "greatest putter" is not just great form and dedication to the art, but the ability to sink putts on the biggest stages at crunch time. No knock on BF, but the greatest putter ever has won/will win more tourneys than Brad, multiple majors, etc.,.
Purists never mention Nicklaus 'cause of his funny little hunched over style, but he made them when it counted, time and again, at the biggest moments. Greatest putter ever. For now.

I think Tiger is the best putter out there, he has prooved it time after time when the tourney is on the line. Nicklaus was good but we remember the putts he made because they are played over and over every year. I guess he did putt them, so they do count. Still, Tiger has some crazy good putting stats.

I agree that Tiger and Jack are the best clutch putters, but Faxon led putting in 1999, 2000, and 2001, and set pga tour records. If I had to pick a player for a putting contest on a putting green, it would be Faxon all day long

Maybe but that's like saying I'll take someone puring the ball and working it all over the driving range. Right now, on the course give me TW. Bobby Locke seems to get a lot of love but I've never watched him hit a putt and I'll take Jack over Faxon too.

Good enough to win the Open 4 times and set scoring records on the PGA Tour (won event by 16 shots). It was so maddening to the other players Locke was banned by the PGA Tour from playing in its events. The fact he scared then that much while hitting hooks on all his full shots says enough to me about his putting skill. In the two-and-a-half years he played on the PGA Tour, Locke played in 59 events; he won 11, and finished in the top three in 30. He even coined the phrase "drive for show, putt for dough" and did so with 15 wins(including British Opens) on PGA Tour and 72 total worldwide.

Bobby Locke is definitely one of the all-time greatest putters. But I saw an All-Star golf show on the Golf Channel a couple years ago with Bobby Locke against Tommy Bolt. Bobby Locke wasn't in his prime, but he also wasn't too old to play well. He couldn't make a putt for birdie it seemed all round long. He didn't putt particularly well. If I recall correctly, he even had a 3-putt. Gary Player said he never saw Locke 3-putt ever.

Tommy Bolt putted lights out and beat Locke handily. I was disappointed to see Locke not putt well because this was the only time I've seen him putt on video other than in :15 clips on the web. I think Locke is one of the greats but not the greatest.

BF is a very good putter, a Jersey boy, and one of the CaMeRoN NaTiONs all-time favorites. They even made an IBBF (Inspired by Brad Faxon), as well as a FaxDay Laguna model which is much coveted.

For #1 all-time, I think I will go with Mr. Clutch, Jack Nicklaus. The man was money, when the money was on the line. Nerves of steel, eye of an eagle.

That match isn't listed anywhere I can find. I'd wanna see it. Any idea when it took place?

Actually, he doesn't. Woods has never been in the Top 10 in 'Overall Putting' on the PGA Tour. There were a few years where he was very high in birdie conversion percentage, which is why most people think he's a great putter, but statistically, he's not. Closer to average, actually. He drives for dough, and putts for show.

And here's one you can win unlimited money with, betting your friends. Which one of these two golfers has led the PGA Tour in Overall Putting for a season, Woods or Sergio Garcia? ( Sergio in 2000, Woods was a career-best 13th that year ).

Stricker and Chris Riley have each led the Tour twice.

I haven't seen it listed on the Golf Channel since I saw it about 2 years ago. The match took place around 1960 or the early '60s. It was shown in black and white.
