Cleveland Hibore XL 2 Wood- the hype is true!

Finally got my hands on one of these. My friend shafted it up for me and its an absolute beast! Was actually hitting it slightly longer than my driver on average, and obviously a lot straighter. No ballooning either, if anything a perfect ball flight for me.

If like me, you struggle to hit a 3W off the deck and only use it off the tee, you may as well ditch it and get one of these bad boys instead- the loft of a 3W and the 460cc benefits of a driver.

One question for anyone who plays this club- what do you think is the optimal ball position and tee height for it? I was playing around with a few combos and couldnt see much difference.

The HiBore 2-wood has been in the bag for 3 years. I keep threatening to move it out in favor of an actual 3-wood. It just keeps performing and won't hiccup.

The 16 degree loft is not traditional 2-wood loft. The head is something on the order of 440ccs. And, of course, the shaft is a little longer than a 3-wood. The result is a bomber off the tee, when you MUST keep the ball in play. For the club championship, this past season, I left the driver in the trunk for both rounds. Placed better than ever before!! I've shot some of my lowest scores, over the past couple years, with no driver in the bag... only my "2-wood".

I have become accustomed enough to this club that I move the ball around quite a bit. Tee it low and a little back and hit a nice fade. Mid tee height and a little more forward and you can hit a nice straight ball with a little draw. Tee it up and hit a towering draw.

The only trouble I've had, over the years, is the occasional "lefties". It won't hit duck hooks. If I get a little tired or lazy, it will go left more than it's supposed to.

This is a club I picked up out of a used bin on a whim. Paid almost nothing for it. It's been one of those "finds" that has garnered comments from more than one playing partner. I've tried some "thriver" experiments, with no success. This 2-wood, however, just keeps going and going and .....

Yeah my bad shot with it has been a pull-hook, nothing distastrous or anything but I cant hit my usual slice even if I try. I wondered if its because the shaft is slightly stiffer than normal for me but maybe there's an element of draw bias?

I bag a Nike SQ Sweet 16*. The shaft is about an inch shorter than a standard driver so it's really easy to control. It's beat to crap or I'd put a decent shaft in it. I highly recommend it, way easier to hit than a driver, plus it's really easy to hit off the deck.

Actually I lied, mine balloons like crazy and I'm lucky to get it out there 200 most of the time. Plus everyone laughs at me. And it has an A flex shaft so I can't control it. Sounds like a coffee can hitting a golf ball. Chicks hate it. Just thought you ought to here the truth.

I found one of these at Play It Again Sports this past weekend for $45! I immediately took it to the range and was hitting some towering draws with it. Whatever the distance is, it's all carry distance. The back of the range has a 250 sign and I was consistantly landing near that marker. My driver lands in the same area and then rolls out but it's a lot easier to hit the 2wood and I'm sure on average the 2wood is further. The shaft is the stock R-Flex so I'm hitting a 15-20yd draw/hook but the flight is the same every swing. Launch is extremely high, like almost looking straight up on your follow through but it keeps on carrying.

I tried hitting a few on the mats but failed after a few tries. That test will have to wait for real grass. I'm pretty excited since this is way easier to hit than my Callaway ERC 3+ (12.5') and isn't much more than 20 yards shorter than a good drive.

Nice find. Now throw an 80g s or x flex low launch shaft in it and you'll hit it past your driver i have two. One with an xpp8 and one with a v2. Both are monsters.

It's unfortunate that no OEMs make anything like this now. I like the scooped top & matte finish of these HiBore XLs.

Other similar clubs I have are: Diablo Edge 13* (shortened .5" to 45") and a FT-iZ 13* (45"). And mfrs keep putting ever longer shafts on their drivers.

This is exactly the club I am looking for. I want to use one of these on the course while I continue to practice my driver on the range.

Any tips on where to find one for sale?

Does anyone know what the head weighs on these ? 210g or so?

The last I saw one was on eBay (seller:Proclubs) A couple months ago. Normally they price clubs on the cheap. Not the unicorn. They wanted something like $149 for it.

Expensive, but for what it does I would be willing to pay.

How does it compare to the Cobra Long Tom 2 wood? EDIT: just found the specs-- nothing similar

I just bought one on here for 80. It was on the bst for a couple days and no one snatched it up. I pulled the shaft and put a bi-matrix in it, can't wait to try it!

I have a play-it-again sports locally that I check periodically. I figure someday this club will be in the bin for $30 and I'll pick it up to try. I've tried other 2 woods (callaway deuce and 3deep) in the past.

As far as searching, i gave up on ebay because its so limited and the sellers know what they have now. A couple times a year they pop up here, also put up a wtb add in that section.

That's crazy that this thread was bumped today.. I purchased a Groupon for a Play it Again Sports here in Calgary. Decided to swing by after my round today, check out the golf area. I ended up coming away with a Cleveland HiBore XL 3 Wood for $30, and a pair of Adams Hybrid 3 & 4's for $10 each.

I had no idea the HiBore XL was such a popular club. I know part of it might be the rarity of the 2 wood. But still. I feel like I found a gem! Can't wait to go swing it on the range. Especially with the state of my driver today. Oye.

I am still looking to buy one of these...
