Callaway X Hot Pro vs Taylormade Rocketbladez Tour

tsur1

Recommended Posts

First, Mods I apologize if this isn't the right section to post this question:

For those of you that have hit both or are playing one, which irons do you guys suggest, Rocketbladez or X Hot Pro irons???

Both were nice when I hit them, I just can't seem to pull the trigger, so help me decide, please!!!!

I have hit both irons in the same shaft, KBS Tour stiff, and for me the XHP looked better, felt better and was just as long. Being a guy who lived and breathed TM for a few years, I was playing the TM Tour Preferred from 2009, but I didn't see anything in the R9's or the TM MC's to make me want to replace the TP's from 2009. I think the overall shape of the XHP is much improved over the Razr X Tour from last year, especially in the toe flow and topline of the iron. Size is another thing, the XHP looks a bit smaller than the RBldz Tour and I prefer the smaller look.

In the end, though, you need to find a way to determine which one really just fits your game the best overall...ease of hit, consistency in distance and dispersion, and above all else starting out..LOOK AND FEEL!!

Hope that helps in some way.

Thanks St Louis!!! I have hit both, and I guess that's where my problem lies. I've been a TM guy for awhile, and went in a different direction last year with my irons, and well, I'm at it again... I've hit both, and like both a lot. I haven't been a fan of Callaway since my X 16s!!!
Anyhow, I'll end up putting DGS300s in them...

Im in the same boat. I hit them both pretty similar with the c taper. I feel the rzr tour to be a little more muted which may or may not be a bad thing. I have x 22 tours now but I do like the fact that the rzr looks like it has less offset. I hopefully will get them both on the launch monitor I am curious if I hit one further then the other. I am assuming they will both be longer then my current x22 tours with project x flighted.

I thought the xhp were much bigger and had more offset than the rbt. I wanted to like the xhp better but they were just shaped very odd. Much bigger and more clunky than last years razr tours.

I mean no disrespect, but are you sure you weren't comparing the RBT's to the standard XHot Irons? After a quick glance / comparison at the local Pro shop, I thought the XHP's were more compact that the RBT's. I don't like chunky irons or irons with loads of offset (I play Adams CMB's), and I loved the look of the XHP's. As a matter of fact, I plan on testing them against my current irons, and if they as good as I've heard, I won't hesitate pulling the trigger on a set!

Im gonna have to agree with longbal, was really looking forward to the xhp almost bought a set before seeing them glad i dident. IMO i too think they look big and clunky but have not seen the rocketblade tour so cant compare the too. I did compare the xhp to other cally irons and they looked huge,i was really disapointed. i am more a cally iron fan than taylormade but really looking forward to seeing a set of rocketblade tour. hope sombody will post a side by side pic.

I have found out that the lofts are pretty jacked up for the X Hot Pro's(6 iron at 27*). Standard 6 irons run around 30*. I believe the PW is 45* so these may mess with your current wedge setup. I believe the RB Tours have the 6 iron at 29.5* and the PW at a more standard 47*. Just some more pertinent info to consider before you pull the trigger.

Thanks all for the input
With this though, I'm not too terribly concerned with lofts, as long as I get consistant distances and gaps, I can adjust to whatever length I am hitting the irons.

I'm also wondering if I put Dynamic Gold S300 or go with the Dynamic Gold XPs ...

I think the long irons in the XHP are similar in size to RBT, but as loft increases, the relative size of the XHP gets larger in comparison the RBT. The XHP short irons are massive, in my opinion.

That said, as a picker, the slot is a bit of an issue for me. When I hit the RBT a groove thin, it would launch straight up in the air, and I would lose distance due to the increase launch, no so much to lost ballspeed.

No disrespect taken, it was definitely the XHP irons I was comparing. I also looked at the Adams CMB irons for comparison as well as my Adams Mb2. My favorite Callaway iron to date was the X tour. I am still waiting for Callaway to come up with a iron similar to that.

[/quote]I owned both and I totally disagree in that I believe the XHP has a thinner topline and sole than the Razr Tour . Of course shafts make a dnd I thunk stock was S300 in the Razr and I have the stock flt PX 5.4 SS once. I have owned over 30 sets and it's not an issue admitting I made a mistake or pointing out issues but to me the XHP is light years better ,including slimdowned profile, than the Razr X Tour. I sure don't understand the complaints on offset because the specs and these old eyes don't see it. XHP is a great iron and the RBZ Tour is also and easily would play either but my vote goes to XHP on about every category.

The Xhp do not come close to what I feel Callaway is marketing these for. You already have a blade, then a slim players cavity. Seems like they place these on the line of the original X tour. A cavity back for the better player still looking for some forgiveness. These to me, miss the mark completely. The don't have anywhere near the compactness, or offset of the X tours. I think they totally missed the mark on these. The blades are perfect, the X forged are kinda funny shaped but more blade like than cavity, and then there is a huge gap going to the Xhp. The lofts get strong, an really there is nothing pro about them. Just my observation. I'm still waiting for a company to come out with something along the lines of the taylormade tour preferred or callaway X tours. The taylormade R9 tp's were close, until you got the the long irons which were dreadful.

IMHO, XHP had a thinner sole and more offset than the RBZ tour, and looked rather svelte to me, almost blade like. The RBZ tour, size wise, reminded me of r7TPs, as the MCs were shorter in blade length. Agree that RBZ tour is more muted. XHP have jacked lofts, not sure about the RBZ tour.

Since both are cast, I'll probably just stick with my i15s for now. Prices are just getting too high for a new set of irons. $699 pp was ok, but $899? Ouch.

I am the exact opposite; I always thought that the X tour were chunky, and just did not look right. I really like the shape of both the X-Hot Pros and the RBZ Tours. They really seem pretty similar in both sole width as well as top line. I could play either without any difficulty.

I just compared the two, and I thought that both in top line and profile, both the RBZ tours and X-Hot Pros were about the same. I wonder if someone could post some comparision pics?

For me the two seem to hit similarly, yet look markedly different.

I prefer the looks of the XHP for some reason, they seem to frame the ball better to my eye, but the RBlzT have some pop!

XHP
shorter heel to toe
ever so slightly more topline
more offset
stronger lofts

RBlzT
larger overall profile (R9 TP look)
less offset
very tall in the hosel transition area

Both compare to the AP2, with the Titleist still looking the best.

How would you describe the turf interaction on the RBT's? I know they really increased the bounce vs the MC's, is the leading edge softer?

Because it is an all one brand bag...

Back in the day, people bought matching woods, irons, and bag.
