Tell me about your i5's

Specs, shaft choice etc.
Now that the season is winding down (at least until can get some qt in Florida hopefully in the winter) . . . I've realized that this will probably be the last season for me and my Comp EZs. I'm leaning towards i5's, if only because I really like Eye2's and i3's/i3 blades, and think the i5's will fall somewhere between them.

I want to hear about your experiences with them - any changes from stock spec (swingweight, shaft, etc.). How do you find the standard grind? Particularly interested in hearing from anyone who has tried different shafts in them (I play DG R300 now, but thinking i need to step it up a bit)

I'll probably spend some of my Fla time working out with these - but want to know of any particular combinations that folks have found to work well . . .

Amazing irons...really have revitalized my game. Switched from j33 combos and these have absolutely worked for me. All they want to do is fly straight, very forgiving, and long. I gave up on the notion that I needed to play blade-like irons and went with these...certainly has worked so far!

Don't even notice the offset now...can honestly say that I'll be sticking with these for a while (and I switch my entire bag a couple of times a month :fool: )

I'm using TFR's in them.

Titleist TSI3
Cobra Baffler
Callaway Apex MB 3-G w/ DG
Titleist SM8 54, 59 w/ DG
Odyssey butane Black Series i #1 w/ welded long neck

Mine are fairly "standard":

3-UW

CS Lite stiff steel with cushin

standard lofts and lengths

blue dot (1* up)

D2 swingweight

new standard size PING grip (these are excellent!)

Some people don't like the CS Lite shaft, but it works great for me, very smooth and light. I'm a low ball hitter and these help give me some height with the long irons. Pretty forgiving and deadly accurate when hit well. I've played some very good golf with these already. I would describe the offset as moderate- it's there but it's not overbearing. Similar look to the i3+ blades, slightly heavier top line, better overall shape to my eye. Best feature is the sole, which goes through the dirt very nicely. They did a great job of making a club with enough bounce to be forgiving, but not so much bounce that you are afraid to take a divot or the club will bounce up and hit you in the face.

I got my set as a combo set

4 and 5 are G5's

6 thru wedge are i5's

Black dot.

CS Lite stiff shaft

I have been very happy with them so far. I was playing G2's before and found working the ball to be almost impossible. The i5's can be worked either way. A very solid feeling club. I know the CS Lite is not a fashionable shaft but I have to say I like it very much. I have had rifle and Dyn Gold and these feel better to me. All around a great club.

New set arrived today, Black Dot, X-100 dyanmic golds with cushin insert, aqua grips, all clubs 1/4 inch long. 2-L. What has amazed me about these clubs is while I don't like the larger size and offset when compared with my S-59s they do perform (and so far don't rust) but the most outstanding part of the set is the wedges. I ordered them on a whim but they are every bit as good as my old eye2s. I've never owned a S wedge that is so easy to get out of the trap regardless of lie or sand condition. They relegated the Tour Wedges to the shelf. No comparison.

Played one round and several range sessions with Ping i5 3-pw hardstepped zz65. They look and hit like typical PING, pretty darn good. I had, still have s59, that I'm replacing with the i5. I was worried I'd hit them too high but so far so good, cant really tell on distances yet. I'm a lifer PING player, but these irons are what you'd expect from PING. First swing was with 9 iron, hit it 3 feet and made the putt, so maybe these clubs have some magic for next year! As for all the 'too much offset' talk, I'm a plus one handicap, the amount of offset is typical PING, it doesnt seem excessive, if you dont like offset then get s59 or other blades. The hardstepped shafts feel just ever so slightly stiffer.

Also replaced my G2 with G5. The G5 has a Accra T70 m5, just got this club and had one short range session, overall, I really like it, but its probably more the shaft that is the big diff. G2 was too high, too much spin but that was probably due to a shaft that didnt fit me. Overall the G5 looks a lot like the G2.

I'm looking forward to more rounds soon with my new bag!
