Innisbrook or Other Courses in Tampa area

Recommended Posts

Flying into Tampa June 22. Doing a trip with just the wife, part of the trip we'll be staying on St Pete Beach, she had to have a few nights on the beach. Trying to figure the other half of the trip for me. I've called Innisbrook to check on their golf packages and unfortunately the Copperhead Course will be closed when I'm down there.

How are the other courses at Innisbrook? Is it worth staying and playing there or should I check out some other options? I've got the wife willing to play at least 2 rounds of golf with me while down there. Do I play something like Fox Hollow Golf Club for 1 round and World Woods for a round on another day? Other golf course suggestions?

How is the resort at Innisbrook? The rates seem very reasonable for lodging only rates. $150 per night including full breakfast buffet. Seems like a pretty good rate to me. It's like $290/per night with golf included.

Any other resorts worth looking at in the Tampa area?

Basically look at it this way, You're paying to play the other courses at Innisbrook, $140 per round (difference between normal stay and with golf price). In june, its slow season and almost every other course in the area has seriously reduced it rates. Almost nobody in the area is more than $80 per round and many are seriously less $25-$60 is very typical for most of the courses. The best course other than Copperhead is the Island course. And its pretty decent, some like it better than Copperhead. But it most assuredly is not worth $100 per round more than most others such as TPC, World Woods, Lake Jovita, Fox Hollow, Brooksville CC, Southern Hills, etc.

Renaissance Vinoy is near the Clearwater area but I don't remember if its still open. Bellevue BIltmore is also there. One of them is still open (don't remember which) and its a Robert Trent Jones and is pretty fun.

But as others have said, World woods is number 1 in area (if you don't want to spend a lot and go to Streamsong). Lots of other ok plays in the north tampa area that are seriously cheaper than Innisbrook.

Make the trip out to Streamsong. If coming from St. Pete Beach it's closer than World Woods and 15-20 farther than TPC or Innisbrook. Addtionally, a ton of aerification occurs in June. Streamsong doesn't aerify yet.

Also, you can get great deals on golf and lodging that time of year.

If you're looking to go the beach route (no golf) you won't be disappointed on Anna Maria Island.

I really enjoyed Innisbrook the couple of times I have gone there on guys trips and haven't played the other courses on your list. As you mentioned with the Copperhead course being closed, I would probably not go there if it was closed. The Island course is nice but Copperhead is the real draw for me.

Accommodations are great for a guys trip (breakfast is good, they take care of your clubs from course to course, suites are roomy for nightly activities, etc.) but I don't think my wife would enjoy staying there as much as she would staying at a nice hotel in a part of town with great restaurants/shopping.

I was at Innisbrook in February with wife and kid. The Copperhead is a really really good course, but the resort...
If you plan on staying there you will have a fantastic 70's experience ! The rooms are way too much dated and dark and the resort is so huge you need to take your car for everything.
If you're going with your wife, go the Streamsong or World Woods way !
