and a little story

Let me first say that I have been a die-hard FootJoy fan for years. That is what my father wore, so naturally they were my first pair of golf shoes. I started with a pair of contours then moved up to some dry joys and then another pair of the newer dry joys pods, which I purchased in early September of this year.

Lately I have been noticing some small "failures" in the shoes. The grommets for the laces have fallen out and the laces themselves are shredding. Then the leather starting tearing right below my right ankle. The inner and outer layer of "leather" tore from the top all the way down to the sole. After this happened I figured it was more than enough cause to go ahead and try to get some type of warranty figured out.

After contacting FootJoy they explained their warranty policy and that I would have to send the shoes in to be evaluated. Evidentially it would take roughly 5-14 days to evaluate the shoes before they will even begin to do a repair or replacement. This by no means would be feasible for me since I train every day and do not have another pair of shoes.

To make a long story short I was extremely frustrated after FootJoy had no other options for me so I wrote to a few other companies to see if they could help me out in any way.

Out of the ten or so companies, I emailed only a few wrote back including Adidas, Callaway, Morton Golf Sales, and Ecco. All of whom were extremely willing to help even though I had not purchased any shoes through them.

They all gave me certain offer like assisting in the warranty process and offering discounts. However, Ecco went above and beyond. They actually sent me a pair of their golf shoes for free. No strings attached.

The shoes are almost as great as the company is. A very comfortable sporty shoe that has kept my feet dry. If anyone is in the process of looking for new shoes, you should definitely give these a try.

Ecco makes a very nice shoe, but, their sizing is rather generous. You may need to drop down a full size.

Yes the customer service representive that picked out the shoes, got me the right size. I wear a 12 and I think these are an 11.

I like Ecco's style and comfort but I find their shoes way too heavy. I always try on their latest styles but until they make one considerably lighter, I will be looking elsewhere.

So you complained to Ecco about your FJ's, and they sent you a free pair of shoe? What were the other company's willing to help you out with the warranty issue?

and Adidas offered me a small discount.

Well, my post is more about their willingness to help out up and coming juniors(like me) not a quick way to get free shoes.

Kudos to Ecco for going above and beyond, but I find nothing wrong with FJ's service. If you read their warranty they are following it as promised.

 

If you are playing/training every day you need more then one pair of shoes. You need to give them a days rest to dry out and you will find increased durability. Your feet will also thank you. A tip for up and coming golfers.

Once you recieve the Ecco's, send in the Fj's for the warrenty issue and then you will solve all your worries.

Yes guys I am a junior(17), and yes being cheap comes with the territory. I obviously have a very limtied income and almosy any money I have goes into tournament fees and more necessary equipment.

 

Unfortunately I do not classify an extra pair of golf shoes as "necessary". Especially when I had paid over 130 dollars for a pair that was once classified as FootJoys most technological shoe.

 

Also, FootJoy did nothing wrong, they followed their protocols and policies. Unfortunately, I am unable to accomadate to their warranty policy and had to find another option. I will send my FootJoys in when it is conveinent for me and either donate the new ones to a program like first tee, or sell them throuh here and donate the funds to a similar oranization.
