tennis wrap

I've always used a layer of tennis wrap on my putter. I seem to remember one summer in the mid 90's when it was the "cool" thing to do and a bunch of tour pros, and my junior golf buddies, used it and that is when I started. The feel just seems right to me and builds up my putter grips to the perfect size.

Β

There are a bunch of grips out there that give a similar feel but i guess I like the convenience of just throwing a new wrap on when it gets old.

Β

I'm a little surprised the USGA has never taken issue with it.

I agree 100% I love how it feels being tacky and such while still having my old grip size underneath. My only con to this is the wrap starts to kinda peel ish off after you have slid it into the bag a lot. I also think this is becauese I might have put the wrap on wrong. It was my first time ha. It seems kinda expensive though

I have used a white tennis wrap for the last 6 years and I see no reason to change now. I have to admit I like it better when it gets all worn and dirty. :D

Indeed very true. I like it because you have the choice. If your putting bad take it off and restart maybe try somethin new. If not keep it on there. I remember last season I had a friend who did the same thing. He put one on and started putting amazing. Soon enough the grip was black as day. It was fraying at the bottom as well. I said why not just change it out. Its no big deal. He insisted he didn't. Couple days later he went out and three putted a few times. Day after new wrap. Just love the idea and gives you a different feel which is good for me haha

I like tennis wrap okay but it wears pretty quickly.

Β

I use and would recommend Hockey Stick Gauze tape. It sticks to its self so it does come undone easily. I use black tape, so that it stays looking better longer. I used yellow tape in college and would change it every few weeks or add a wrap because the dirt on my hands would blacken the grip.

Β

I have got the tape at various places, but you can usually find a very big role for around 2-3 bucks and it will give you atleast a few regrippings worth depending on how big you make the grip. It gives a tacky firmer feel. It is much thinner than tennis tape, which means more wrapping, but also that you can make a more precise size to better fit your needs.

:rofl:

Β

I don't think they've taken issue with it directly, but I DO think it's covered under the altering-equipment-during-a-round rule. I seem to remember reading that if the tape begins to unravel and/or you remove any of it during a round, then you wouldn't be able to continue using your putter during the round as it's playing characteristics changed (or whatever the technical language states).

Β

So, seems to me that you play with wrap [that can come undone] at your own risk.

Β

(Now, how many of us play in tournaments where this matters? Probably not many of us...)

nah nah nah - same as lead tape -if it comes undone -you have to put it back on or have the exact same length/kind/everything to replace it - if you do not replace it(this might be the equivalent as normal course of play) I think you can even continue the use, but you cannot pull it off if it starts to unwrap....in other words if it falls off, thats okay, but if it starts to come undone, you must either play on, rewrap same tape or be allowed to replace with equal amount/same tape - see rules for sure, ask head tourny official/head pro and have a back up of same color/same length or perhaps I think you'd even be allowed to place a small piece of tape at end to prevent further unwrapping of grip tape - - but always clear something like this with pro - best bet is to have back up in case it happens.

Ok a little off topic - any recommendations for a new tennis racket? I haven't played for a while but would like to start again after the snow melts.

Though much is taken much abides;
We are not now that strength which in old days
Moved earth and heaven, that which we are, we are;
One equal temper of heroic hearts,
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.

I've been playing tennis for ages and love the feel of the wrap on my putter. Wish that you could use it on all clubs because you have better grip than the grips they make. I use the GP cord to soak up sweat and after a little while they kinda break in to feel similar to a worn tennis grip. Prince makes a great new grip called Duratred+ and Gamma is another good one.

Β

For the fellow that needs a good racket look at the Prince O3 line. They are forgiving, lots of pop and look really great. I have three of the Black in Tour models.

I agree the Prince O3 line are some great tennis rackets.. The racket I use for when I'm not exactly on my game is the Head Ti.S6.. It's got lots of pop which can sometimes be a problem, but overall it's a solid racket.
