Width AND Depth

Quick off topic question... Is Tiger someone who uses late left forearm rotation? I'm just thinking in terms of his takeaway....

I have a similar move to him/fowler

He has in the past. Not as much under Foley.

Nice vid.

How would one go about creating more depth? Is it just a matter of better connection like the glove under the arm drill would create.

Cheers.

Don't think Monte will like that idea...

Deep trail hip turn..

Would also be interested to hear your thoughts on how width and depth interact with the third (height) axis, Monte. That's where it gets tricky for me. Take a guy whose hands are going in too fast -- as you demonstrated in the video -- and sucking the left arm across the chest. The problem looks pretty obvious, but I've seen good instructors suggest diametrically opposite solutions to the same player. One wanted the right arm to fold faster to get the hands going up more, one wanted the right arm to stay very straight to get the hands going back more (and promote a faster turning rate to take care of the ascent component.) Neither was by definition "wrong", as far as I can tell ...

Agree on both counts.

There are many ways to get there, the problem arises when "a way" is too difficult for most. In your example, folding the right arm early causes issues for a huge percentage of golfers...

We all fight something. I think the game was invented by wives to torture bad husbands.

Excellent observation, and backed by ample clinical data.

When I call wife after a round, her first question is, 'well, did you suck?'

 • 4 years later...

Don’t have a recent DTL, But I’ve been trying the No turn cast drill with head not going forward because I was told by an instructor that I have fast hips and my right heel comes up fast and I know tend to lose my angles a bit at impact. I also lack wrist set during backswing, and head/upper body leans towards target during downswing, So thought this might help like it helped Brendon from Be Better Golf. I tried and still had steep divots with a pretty noticeable Out to In path.. I was looking at my shaft at left arm parallel and it was almost pointing straight down(extremely upright). Think this might have something to do with not having enough width. Took a few swings feeling like my arm goes deeper with more hip depth and started to actually have a few draws and straight shots .. but had some A few Shanks as well . Am I heading in the right direction with more depth with arms and hips , what could be a reason for the shanks? I’ve literally watched a ton of Montes videos recently regarding no turn, left arm, zipper away, Snead squat, be better golf videos with Brendan ft Monte. And thought I’ve finally figured it out.. any insight would be great even though there was no video. Thanks, I’ll hope to record a video soon, but in the meantime anyone know if I’m getting anywhere with this?

Hard to get many responses when replying to a very old thread (you're not alone lol) -- I would make your own thread asking, once you have video.
