Selling dirty golf clubs? Is this a thing?

That’s a worn clubface. Nothing they can do to “clean” that.

For the clean groove obsessed people, if you go back to the data compiled by the USGA, grooves don’t matter for shots hit from the fairway. You could have a grooveless clubface with something to roughen the face to add spin. Like Vokey spin milling. That adds only a couple hundred rpms. Most of the RPMs are created by the swing itself.

The grooves add in when hitting from the rough and there will be grass trapped between the face and the ball. In that case the grooves cut the grass and smash it into the grooves on contact to allow more clubface contact with the ball to generate spin. If the grooves are full of gunk before a shot from the rough, so the impact grass has nowhere to go, you’ll be seeing a lot of fliers.

I'm not lazy, just have other things I'd like to do than clean my clubs. I do clean my house, though...

More importantly- why do some people care whether or not other people keep their clubs clean and feel free to make judgements about those people based on that useless information?

I don't think people care whether you clean your clubs or not. People wonder why you wouldn't clean them, you know, make them presentable for sale.

You don't at least hit your clubs with a damp towel between rounds? Don't you know that coarse sand on the club face gets pounded into the grooves, damaging them?

Nope. Never. Mine get a bath at the end of the season, before they get put away for the winter, but I never clean them between rounds. I will hit them with a brush/towel if they pick up a bunch of gunk after a shot, but I'm not obsessing about making sure they look pretty. Doesn't seem to hurt my game any, nor doe sit seem to accelerate wear beyond a reasonable rate. Don't get me wrong, I have no issue with people making their stuff look pristine, it's your stuff, do with it what you want. But don't act like people who don't share your sensibilities are dirty people who don't clean their houses either.

Is it really that hard to understand that people are different from one another?

I'm with the OP... I'm a little OCD so it drives me a little nuts when I see someone selling clubs and they didn't even bother to clean them before taking photos and posting them for sale.
