Quail Valley in Banks?

My cousin is coming into town in a week and we're looking to get a round or two in. We want to play a place that's a bit nicer and not too muddy (I play Glendoveer often as it's about 3 min from my house). I know Stone Creek and Langdon would be best bets but I wanted to get a sense of Quail Valley as I've never played there. With the rain we've had, does anyone have a comparison of Quail Valley vs. Stone Creek/Langdon vs. Heron Lakes?

From my knowledge Quail would be a mud fest right now. I may be wrong but I've played it in previous years with 1/2 this rain and it was a mud fest, just the soil out in that part of town. Played Stone Creek 2 weeks ago and was very pleasantly surprised by how playable it was.

I'm always pleasantly surprised by how playable stone creek is. I played it a month or so ago after some pretty good downpours and it played well. Langdon I played about a month ago and it was playing pretty firm on the fairways - the rough was still quite soggy and balls plugged. Greens on both were great for the time of year.

 

It's disappointing to hear that Quail would be a mud fest though. I was hoping to try it out, but I get enough mud ball playing the muni's in the area.

Quail will be about the same condition as the muni's. Drive out to Gearhart for a night and 2 rounds. Sand based course that might be in decent condition

Quail is my home course. Its condition in a week will depend entirely on whether we have a dry week next week or not (which does not appear to be the forecast). As of last Sunday, it's still extremely wet and muddy.

 

The course gets into shape pretty quickly, but record setting rain has flooded the bunkers and there are a couple of holes (especially #1) where you can lose a ball in the middle of the fairway and sink up to your ankles if you step in the wrong spot.

 

Stone Creek is probably your best bet for drainage.

I played Stone Creek today and Langdon Farms last week. The fairways are better at Langdon, but the rough is fairly wet at both. Both courses are playable. Greens were aerified last week at SC and Monday of this week at Langdon.

 

I like QV, however I only play it in the drier months.

FYI, I played Heron Blue last weekend and it was a swamp. Lost three balls plugged in the fairways.

I played Glendoveer (West) and Quail Valley on Saturday (had a lot of free time). Glendoveer was in MUCH better shape than QV, which surprised me. I like QV, but it was a swamp and very tough to play in. As others have mentioned, I'd wait until it dries out a bit if you aren't in the mood to deal with that.

Nope, he comes into town this weekend. We have a round at Stone Creek set up.

 

West actually was pretty good two weeks ago when I played it, I was also surprised. Greens were slow - slower than normal, which as you probably know is already really slow. I was consistently short on my putts...wth!!! haha. But it's in much better shape imo than East. We are for sure waiting on QV till it dries out.

I like playing Quail in late summer, when the fairways turn 'tawny' and are so fast that you can measure them with a Stimpmeter....

Played Quail yesterday/ Oct 11. Course was in grest shape... dry and greens running pure and fast for this time of year.
