P1 to P2 - why is it so difficult? Thoughts?

I have always struggled with my takeaway. I tend to get the club under plane early on (p1 going to p2). I’ve been trying to work on this and get it to be a lot more like Mac wanted for MORAD. When I practice inside and do reps it looks decent (IMO) but then take it to a real swing outside and it’s back to crap.

Anyone work on Mac’s positions or MORAD and pick this up quickly?

You’re too bent over, that will ave a tendency for you to get inside to counterbalance. You’re head and spine position at the top is where you should be at address.

All "tips" are welcome. Instruction not desired.

Monte - I appreciate the advice and I can fix that for sure. I’ve studied how George G. prefers people at set up and I have filmed my swing (he definitely prefers a taller set up). Very similar results with the takeaway. Guess I’m curious as to if I’m not hinging,cocking, turning, etc correctly that’s causing the under plane takeaway from P1 to P2?

To add, you also early roll your forearms this also helps to get the club head behind you early. wrist cock from d In transition you drop the club behind in what looks like an attempt to shallow - gets you stuck with arms trailing pivot.

Cool drill. I actually have a tour rotation stick product that I use I’ve just never used it as Dan has showed with it on the back hip. Thanks for posting

Yep by putting the stick on trail side it forces the forearms to be in the non- rotated position. Can alternate lead and trail side.

A tendency with the left arm slightly externally rotating and the right arm slightly internally rotating serves me well.

Try rebalancing from the ground. tibula and fibula are nearly straight up. if you push these forward -a bit more from the ankles to your knees; your thighs into the hips well may rearrange the whole set up. Someway somehow it must free your back.

pressure points into the ground will change too. I work on this diligently every day.

P1 is your address. P2 is the club shaft parallel to the ground in the takeaway.

 

In the first video, the club is exactly where Mac would want it with the club head 'covering' the hands for a standard CP motion hitting windows 4-6.

 

The 2nd video the clubhead is a little inside. This usually results from the club head not moving vertically enough due to not enough wrist hinge.

 

I found getting p2 to be very difficult to nail consistently because you need to get the wrists to hinge just the right amount with the right amount of trail elbow flexion and moving the butt of the club back about 6 inches in a straight line. Mac would tell you the same thing in terms of the difficulty of consistently executing p2, but the beauty of it is that if you can consistently nail it then the rest of the swing becomes much easier and once you get the rest of the mechanics right...now you can operate the swing on auto-pilot.

Address a ball. Stick a stick in the ground at an angle that is ‘on plane’, and that the clubshaft can ride up. Do some reps, do one without. Do some reps, do one without. Do some reps, hit a ball.

If your problem is sucking it too inside you need more left wrist cock to elevate the club more. More right elbow flex is essential too and prevents too much inside because the more it flexes the more it can’t get inside it - because it is flexing away from the clubshaft that wants to get inside it.
