So it sounds like if someone was going to settle in Arcadia area then PCC is doable and the best option for a private club/course? I like the Biltmore area but it definitely doesn't have the same vibe as where you currently are. However, Arcadia seems to be a growing bar/restaurant scene? Definitely doesn't have the desert living feel and certainly not easy access to outdoor activities. You make some great points and I think that it shows the diversity of the area in terms of golf/amenities/types of housing.

PCC or PVCC. The business tie ins at PCC we’re more important to us than the course but PCC is a very fun course to play. PVCC is a better course but it didn’t work from a fit perspective.

Got it - so Paradise Valley is the better of the two in terms of courses? Good to know. I'll keep you in mind as my plans move forward to move to AZ.

Yep. I think it is the best course in that immediate area. Not significantly better than PCC but better.

@NotromJRH summary is quite good and I don’t really disagree with any of it but there are a couple of other points that I wanted to add. It is surprising how many kids are around a few minutes North of where he is talking about but there’s no doubt that Grayhawk is the most kid heavy neighborhood. That said, I don’t live that far away but it is often thought of that way. It takes me around 11-13 minutes to get from my house to pick up my daughter at the North Scottsdale Boys & Girls Club where she likes to go after school on days when she doesn’t have activities. Basically it is all kids that live at Grayhawk + North of the 101 because it is easy for parents to pick them up on the way home. 

We live in Troon Village where there are less but still plenty of kids and the neighborhood we’re building in now up by Tom’s Thumb trailhead (less than 1 mile away from our current house as the crow flies but another 200’ up the hill) has a better mix of kids than we assumed as well. Four houses in the same immediate area will each have 1-3 kids. Now, they may be the only kids in the actual neighborhood for now but at least there are some. We were a bit worried it would only ours. 

As I noted above, we’re pretty big into being outdoors (my wife loathes just sitting inside the house and watching TV unless it is well past dark) so being able to be outside, even if it is just sitting outside and enjoying the views or short bike rides is essential to our life. Therefore we wanted to make sure that this was not just possible but desirable even during the summer. You’d be amazed at the summer temp difference of being 500-700’ higher in elevation and a few miles away from a lot of businesses makes. During the middle of the summer it is commonly 5-7* cooler at my house than the intersection of Pima and Pinnacle Peak a mere 3 miles away. That does make for some cooler winter mornings but generally the difference is closer to 1-3* in the cooler months so we really tried to target that distance and elevation. @T_BoneAZ would have a similar drop at Mirabel and it is also a beautiful place to live but a little too far north for us and with even less kids. We did consider several houses there however.

I’ve lived in Troon for quite some time now but we considered and spent a lot of time looking in Paradise Valley, DC Ranch/Silverleaf, Mirabel and a few other nearby communities before concluding that we really wanted to stay very near where we were and that we just needed a bigger house.

Look at DC Ranch as well. Nice facilities for families. Good schools. Next to Grayhawk if you are more familiar with that course. Further north and it just gets far for restaurants, shopping, sports that kids will eventually be doing. Happy house hunting:-)

Hey guys, just checking in and seeing how things are out in AZ in midst of the Covid. Wife and I are debating if we should hold off heading out that way for a few months. Have most courses stayed open?
