I would feel ready when I had top 16 at the US AM, won a NCAA national championship, 3 or more time all-american in college. After I had done that I might think about turning pro, playing professional golf is a hell of alot different then amaetuer golf. It costs upwards of $40,000 a year and is extremely mentally and physically taxing. Not being able to sleep in your own bed for 30+ weeks a year will wear on you.

Go to the longest/ toughest course in your area. talk to the super/greens keeper. have hime set up the course right foot in the rough. and all the toughest pins on knobs etc. then go shoot 65....you might be ready then.

Well....name the last bit of US Am. Champs...

Molinari

Moore

Flannigan

Dickerson

Quinney

Gossett

Kuehne

Kuchar

Woods

Harris

Leonard

Mickelson

Voges

So I would say going deep in that tells you your ready...Top 1-20 Ranked College Golfer, your probably ready...Obviously Nationwide Tour is self explanatory.

Obviously if you can go out on any day in any conditions on any course and shoot under 65...your probably ready.

The US Am was long considered the true test if you were ready to play the PGA tour. That has all changed with all the mini tours. Guy are chasing their dreams for longer and allowing for less spots for the young am's coming out of college. I read during Q school the Golf Channel showed a statstic that in 1975 the average Q school graduate was 24 whereas now it is something like 33.(don't hold me to those numbers they are in the area but I don't remember correctly)

Im not going to mention any names but i play with my fare share of tour pros on a reguar basis and at our home course where they play they shot 5 to 6 under everytime....also i play with top top juniors everyday that have played in PGA tour events and pro tournys, not going to mention names and they shoot 3 to 4 under everytime no matter what.....the course we play at is a 7000 yrd par 72 it is no pga tour set up but it has a good amount of hard hole......to turn pro is one thing to make it is a whole dif. story.....if u realisticly want to turn pro and make it, i feel u have to be playing a lot of tournament golf and winning at every level before going to the next.....so that means if u win as a junior and college player but dont win any amateur event what make u think ur going to win or play pga events if u cant win amateur events.....got to win at every level to make it ........i could sit here and say well if i shoot 64 on my home course everyday i can turn pro but really i could maybe not be able ot compete in tournys.....to answer the question once u win at every level then u can go to that final level of turning pro...

lets keep in mind that there r some pro tours that arent really that good. The guy i get lesson from went out and won a golden state tour event without practicing or playing much by 3 shots........shur he is a good golfer but he very rarley ever preactices anymore becaseue it is his job to teach not learn. And i know a guy who just got his card on the US pro tour (most money u can make other than PGA and Nationwide tours) and he hsot +1 over 3 days.........golf course is like 6900 yards par 72. Obviously not 65 everytime and this is the smae guy who missed the sexond stage of q school by a shot after a stupid ruling he was given ( if u want to know the story i will tell you haha)

US pro tour isn't the most money besides pga tour........ and all you have to do is PAY for your card, you don't even have to play good, just pay.

Actueally ur wrong..............top 52 on the money list last year are exempt and then they handed out 100 other fully exempt cards for the tour this year................the q school for it was here in San Diego

That makes me realise even more how handicap doesent really matter! I know pro's that have turned pro off a scratch handicap and done bloody well! Ian Poulter and Paul Lawrie both turned pro off a 4 handicap and they dont seem to be doing to bad.

If you want to be a pro, handicap means nothing! Its the amount of tournaments you win that counts!

Mind you a plus 4 handicap with ur handicap system isnt amazing anyway, thats about a scratch handicap in Britain.
