What's worse a 3 putt par or a 3 putt bogey

I have a friend who a while back two bomed shots and 3 putted for a bogey. He has never had an eagle he claims. So I ask what is worse 3 putt par or 3 putt bogey. I would say the 3 putt par but what if you 3 putt bogey to break 70 for the first time?

3 putt bogey is worse, sure a 3 putt par sucks because you tossed away a birdie but at the end of the day it is still a par and Pars>Bogeys

Actually, par<bogey, by definition

all 3 putts are failures. No such thing as failing better.

I generally feel worse after making a 3 putt par than a 3 putt bogey, so if we're judging better/worse by that, then I'd go with 3 putt par.

Scorewise, Par's always better than bogey.

Heck, I've had 2 putts for par or bogey that were worse than 3 putts for par or bogey. It's all relative to the situation...... If I hit 2 huge shots to get on the front of a tiered green with the pin on the back on a par 5, 3 putts might be perfectly fine. But if I stick an approach on a par 4 to 3 feet and yank the putt, that 2 putt is terrible

Par is better than bogey, irrespective of the circumstances.

Especially if the alternative is a 4 putt bogey!

Three putt Par is infuriating. Cover all that ground to get home in two and blow it with the flat stick. Hate it.

For me a par is always better than a bogey, but this topic isn't unreasonable at all.

I recall playing with a good buddy about three years ago on a course with a couple of shorter par fives. Although he played to about a 7, he had never had an eagle. On one of the par 5s, he had an eagle put that he turned into a par. He was pretty pissed about it, moreso than at his bogeys.

Would you rather double bogey a par three, or go ob, re-tee, and put it in the hole for par?

The 3 putt double bogey is even worse. I seem to get one a round. Two indifferent shots to somewhere around the green, and so-so pitch or chip and three putts. What kills me with these is often none of the shots were terrible, just none of them were good. Pitch from 30 yards to 18 feet, putt either too long or didn't account for enough break, and then miss the 4 footer for bogey.

I'd have to say a 3 putt for par is worse assuming your second putt for eagle went passed the whole, atleast giving you a chance for birdie. On the other hand, a 3 putt for par can be a confidence booster if you have any putts roughly the same length later in the round. Just my opinion.
