A Couple of Questions

I haven't been playing long but I've started messing with pulling iron heads and doing everything myself lately. I practiced on some beat old irons I have(pulling heads, bead blasting, and expoxing them back on) and it was pretty straight forward but my regular irons(Nike SQ machspeeds) are a little different. I don't use my 4 iron so I pulled the head and had a few questions before I started on the rest.

They have what looks like bullet casings glued into the tips. What are these? Are they for weighting? Are these just pressed in?

They look to have collared ferrules. I read on here that these ferrules work on Nike VR pros. Will they work on mine? You can also you regular ferrules, correct?

Sounds like tip weights.

They can be glued in - some additional heat to soften up the epoxy and a pair of pliers should get them out easily.

Yeah those are them. I notice they stick out a bit. Will this affect the club length? Should I press them all the way into the shaft? They stick out maybe 2 or 3mm.

The better question that needs to be asked first is it still the right weight for the new heads? Those weights are to help get the swing weights of all the irons in the set to be the same (or at least close to one another). You really need to check the SW in the with the new head and then you can determine if it is the right weight. You may need something heavier or lighter or remove it completely.

The point was that when installing shafts in a head, you should always check the SW yourself and use what ever tip weight is appropriate for the desired SW. Now that being said, as long as what ever you did to the heads ('bead blasting') did not change the weight of the heads significantly, reusing the all the old weights should get you back to the same point they were before you pulled them. As far as pushing the weights all the way in, the few millimeters difference wont really have a noticeable effect either way.

The bead blasting took off maybe a touch of paint and etched the chrome a little.

One last question. I noticed when I put together my old mess around set of irons(dunlop powerlifts I think) that on some of the clubs the shaft was not completely straight at the tip. Like it was permanently flexed a certain way maybe a millimeter or so. How do you align it when it is like that?

Is there a really good club making site that info and guides for everything?

I appreciate the help! I just ordered some collared ferrules from cell-parts. Hopefully they'll fit.
