New Irons Question... RocketBladez Tour vs i20 vs AP2 712.... Or, keep my i5's???

Currently playing i5's & really like them. Had them reshafted a few years ago w/ KBS Tour shafts & they really are great. They are, however, what, 10 years old?!?!? So, my question is, are the above mentioned irons that much better as far as technology, forgiveness, distance, etc.? And if so, can you comment on the pros & cons of each? Which one is most forgiving? Which has the best feel? Which is most durable? Etc, etc, etc..... Thanks!

I play 712 ap2's and I have demoed the other two. Ap2's are far superior in looks, sound, and feel over the i20 and rocketbladez tour. Ap2's will be less durable than the other two however since they are forged and the others are cast. Ap2's at address look near identical to the titleist mb and IMO they feel better than the mb and come with a ton more forgiveness. Ap2's vs your i5's, I'd say ap2's will also look sound and feel better. I don't think you can find a better iron overall than the ap2, especially the new ones with the satin finish are supposedly even more forgiving. Hope this helps!

I have played i5's w/ DGR400's for a long time and like everything about them. Out of shear boredom I purchased a set of RBZ Tour (w/ KBS Tour 90) recently and have played several rounds. I will try to answer some of your questions. Overall these are irons are very very similar w/ regards to size and shape. slightly less offset on all irons and slightly thinner soles on some in the RBZ Tours. Standing over them the mid and long irons appear to be more compact in the RBZ Tours but when you put them side by side they are very close. The feel a bit different. Both feel very good when hit on the sweet spot. I think the PING's actually feel better on miss hits but I don't know if that's good or bad. Distance is a draw. You will not find 10-15 extra yards in the RBZ Tours if that's what your looking for. Durability goes to the i5's by a mile, they are practically indestructible but in the short term the RBZ's chrome has stood up to well to the ratty winter fairways I've been playing. I bought the RBZ Tours on the cheap sight unseen and was surprised by how similar they are to the i5's. The RBZ tours are in the bag right now and I'm having a good time playing them.
Just let me know if you have any specific questions or if you would like me to post some side by side pics.

Only you can decide. Hit them all and see what you like. If no better than your current ones, keep those and save the money.

I personally don't think there is a better iron out there than the I-5. I've owned 20+ iron sets but I always come back to them. I've stopped trying to replace them at this point. They are 10 years old and still look pretty much like new. The only thing that has ever spent more time in my bag are the Maxfli Revolution Black Dot irons. Man I wish TM or somebody would bring back that design. That may tempt me away from Ping.

Bottom line: you probably won't find anything better than the I-5's, but if you're curious then find something on the cheap.

Thought my ho'in days were behind me, but they just looked sooooo nice. Compared them side by side w/ the new i25's & the i20's look so much nicer. Like I said, plan on keeping my i5's (3-L) w/ upgraded KBS Tour shafts forever, but I just couldn't resist. Got the CFS stiff shafts in the i20's after loving the lighter weight 44' Magnum in my driver. Hit them w/ DG300, KBS Tour, & CFS & thought the CFS were so smooth. So what do you think? Big mistake? Waste of $$$? Or, great idea?

I really, really like the RBladez Tour, but I wouldn't make the change just to make the change. If you really want to buy new irons, that's one thing, but I like to keep my irons around for years.

The shape of the TM irons at address is (to me) similar to that of the AP2, and the lofts and distances between the two clubs seemed to be pretty close. AP2 would be better if you already have a high trajectory or a fade, TM if your natural shot shape is lower trajectory or a draw.

AAAAAAND of course I just noticed that you already made your move. In any event, I think it was a good move to keep your i5s - if you find something you hit really well, always keep it.

I'm embarrassed to say that I've owned every single one of those irons sets, with many different shaft combinations. In fact, I've owned nearly every major OEM release in the last 6 years. Of all of them, the i20's were in the bag the longest. Only got rid of them out of shear impulse.

I think the major improvement of the i20 over i5 is feel. Oh how I love the feel of a well-struck i20...
