If you look at most modern golfers, they are in good shape. Nearly all of them work out daily, they need the strength and flexibility to hit the ball farther.

Regarding carrying their own bags, that's a bad idea, it would slow play to a crawl and it's already slow.

Range finders should be allowed on Tour, that would help speed play.

Not a fan of formula 1 anyways, but I see your point. I think that golfers are capable of doing this though. We see it at the am and college level anyways, and I think it would add a bit more into what it takes to be a golfer at the top level. Especially when it comes to conditioning and training.

No. I do like F1 by the way. I want my local muni to stop people from carrying bags because it slows down play a lot. Get a cart. The guy has to take the bag off his shoulder. Hit the shot then load the bag back up. A total waste of time. It is even worse if you have a guy who is 40 or over. By the 5th hole of the round they are beat and dragging. I have also had a husband and wife and the wife is dead tired by the 5th hole too. Idiocy.

Yeah it is great exercise and burns calories but it is a waste of time.

I see this with younger kids like high school aged boys. They have no concept of time. They think they have all the time in the world. I wish I could go back to those days.

Absolutely not. Golf has always had yardage markers. They have them at the tee box. They've had markers in the fairways for a hundred years. "Judging" yardages has nothing to do with the game of golf. It never has and never will.

OP, on a serious note: [size=4]Fitness HAS become a big part of golf over the last 30 years. Watching Tampa ystdy all the leaders were lean machines. Perhaps you can cover that off in your essay. Gym workouts used to feared for golfers and most everyone hung out at the bar afterwards to prep for the next day[/size]

Golf in 90 degrees with humidity over 4 days is HARD, carrying or not.
I was amazed at the fitness of the tennis players at the Aussie Open in that heat this year
