Spending a week in Irvine... Strawberry Farms or Oak Creek?

Any info on either would be great. Probably going to playing after 4pm a couple times mid-week. Open to other suggestions too..

Personally I'm not a fan of Strawberry and prefer Oak Creek. Both should be punching their greens soon too, so that may influence your decision.

If you don't mind the drive, I prefer Oak Quarry and Oak Valley to both of them. Most Orange County golf is hideously overpriced IMHO.

If you travel, be sure to avoid rush hour, typically from 6AM to 8PM.

Both those tracks are overrated based on cost considering the alternatives if you are willing to go a bit out of the area. On it's own merit, they are good courses. Oak Creek being the better layout.

Another vote for oak granted ive nvr played strawberry. From what i hear the latter is fairly punishing to stray drives. That alone turns me off .

Gave oak quarry a shot today and its a great track but a lot of trouble off the tee as well. Give oak valley a try and goose creek was in great shape today.

Oak Creek has been in horrid shape the last few months and is not worth the price. I generally get on there for about half the asking cost and I still don't think it's worth it. Strawberry is in much better shape right now but Oak is probably a better layout. They are both very different, Oak is primarily a second shot course and SF is mainly a first shot course and some target golf. I think Strawberry's back 9 is the best nine of the two courses but the front 9 is lackluster.

Right now in the South OC area I think Arroyo is the best deal in town. It's in good shape and has the best layout for any OC Muni excluding Pelican. There are no houses on the course, makes you use every club, hit an array of shots, and really only has one throw away hole.

Son treated me to a trip last spring to the L.A area. Played strawberry farms, trump national, and lost canyons. Lost canyons will be played on a return trip. Played 36, 2 courses and took red eye back to mn.

Played oak creek yesterday. Greens and fwys were in great shape. One thing that pissed me off was that the bunkers are rock hard and have 0 sand. They need to fix this asap.

I know it is way past the initial topic's intent, but what is Arroyo really like? It isn't that far from me but the pricing has kept me going to courses I know will be worth the money in the past.
