Messed up my collection

Long story short I enabled iTunes to organize my collection on accident and now all my years of hard work is ruined. I started collecting long before iTunes so a lot of my music does not have ID3 tags or proper ID3 tags. Does anyone know of a free program that can do bulk ID3 tag modifications so I can but my music back in order? I have 21GB worth of music and now it takes me for ever to find a song.

I hear you!!!! Itunes has many perks, but its a big headache as well.

 

I like to use Helium when I edit tags, but in your situation I'd use FixTag. Fixtag will do individual tags, and also groups at a time based on the patterns you set.

 

Hope you get it figured out. Once you do, I'd recommend spending a few hours backing up the songs onto DVDs. While it may be a pain it will save you.

Before I bought a Mac, I used to copy and compile my own selections, and did it "my way". I'd create directories named after the compilation I was making, and use toast or whatever to import the songs there...

 

I did the same thing you did. I suffered the same fate, but thankfully didn't have as much music at the time on my PC. You may want to check out Version Tracker and search for something, but frankly, unless those tunes have the right ID3 tags - and most likely they don't - you're hosed.

 

Unless you have a backup - you DO have a backup right....

 

(Another thing I started to do AFTER numerous PC self destructs! I lost too mush too many times...)

I just don't get why itunes works they way it does...i mean something are great, but examples such as these is just BS...everyone's getting paid- artists, itunes and whoever eles...but the consumer takes it..
