PICS!

Hey all, just wanted to add some pics I took of these two super courses. From early Feb, 07. Took a trip down for some job interviews, but found juuust enough time to sling it.

King's North, Arnold Palmer Design. Just a fun, cool course. Greens were a little bumpy, but it IS February. Hard but fair. Love it. Too bad me and my buddy played like crap, but for once... didn't matter!

TPC of Myrtle Beach. Now I know that I LOVE Fazio designs. This course was also quite hard. Im an 8 hcp, but playing with my mid-winter Michigan golf swing. Card said 94, but I lost like a dozen balls. So a cheaty 94. Thing about this course is that if youre hitting driver well, you'll score. Even if youre spraying it a bit, there's a touch of forgiveness. For instance, at many other courses (especially up here in MI), if you miss, youre likely in some stupid little bush under a tree. Here, youre just in some pine straw. While not the best place to be, at least you can find it and dig it out. Greens were absolutely perfect. ALSO- dont mess with the turkies, they will chase you and they are fast.

JNewsted, you're killing me....leavng for MB April 1st and seeing these pictures makes me feel like an inmate in prison having 27 days left to do his time! Great pictures, we were considering playing TPC since we are staying at Legends Resort, seeing those pictures I will be booking this week!

Kings North is one of my favorite courses. And Long Bay (because I live there though lol.)

I will be playing King's North next week looks nice. I played Long Bay last year it was really nice.

Doesn't King's North have a hole (The Gambler) that has a chance to use a island fairway? So did you go for it or take the long way. ;)

I was exactly the same until October of last year when we played TPC of Myrtle Beach. The greens were absolutely attrocious. Terrible would be a compliment. They had lost all but four of them that summer and yet still had no problems charging us the normal rate. To say that the course should have been closed is an understatement. From tee to green it was great, but the dirts/browns (there was zero grass on 14 of them) really detracted from the experience.

I'm glad to see that they have finally recovered and actually gotten some grass on their greens. I have to be honest, I was expecting you to be ripping into them for being in bad shape when I first saw the thread.

Just did the Legends thing last weekend.

Played Mooreland (Dye), Heathland, and Fazio at Barefoot. My favorite was the Dye. Heathland was a joke. I'd skip it. The course was wide open, and the greens were horrible.

The fazio would be fun but it was so windy that it was hard to enjoy.

Bend of the river GC, might catch you on the range! Hope you have a great trip and lets pray the weather is nice! Save a few 70s for me would ya! We are playing, the witch, Mooreland, Oyster, Heritage, Heathland and Parkland. Wondering if I should switch the heathland round to something else since the reviews on this site haven't been great.

If you look in the second to last pic of the Kings North pics, youll see the island fairway from #6, "The Gambler" from behind the green. We didnt tip it, played the next furthest (6800ish), and the hole was about 490. Its only like 180 to the front edge of the island, like 260ish to the end. Which I think is kind of dumb, because its NOT really that hard of a target to hit, plus it still leaves you with 160-180 to the green. If it was like a 230 carry that got you to within 110-130 to the green, then I think itd be more worth it. Did I go for it? Well, I was hacking it around so bad, I wasnt in the mood to worry about dunking it. So, hell yeah I went for it. It started on line to hit it, but sliced and actually ended up on the real fairway... then I stuck a 3 hybrid from 215 over the green and got in for one of the few 'real' pars I had that day.

Come to think of it, at the TPC, there WAS some sign of green weirdness. On one or two, there were some places that had square 'patches' that looked like they had replaced some spots. None of them really got in the way of our putts. It didnt even remember them. They were smooth as silk, and according to the proshop sign, they were running about 9. Cant wait to see how it would roll in summer conditions.

About the same, maybe even a little slower. When a course has bent grass greens that far south they really have to keep the moist in the summer to prevent them dying due to the heat.

I'm going down from 3/21 to 3/25. I'll be playing King's North, Southcreek, Riverclub,Tradition, Litchfield and Willbrook. Hope the weather's nice.It's always dicey that time of year! I've never played any of these courses. Any opinions on the others besides Kings north would be appreciated. :blink:

Howellgolf, not sure if its too late to change your choices but I would swap Southcreek to the West course. Played both and the West was a better track, nicer greens etc. Check this link out for more ratings and reviews on the courses above. This site is our bible for our trips to Myrtle.
