Taylormade Rac LT Shafts

I play a set of TM Rac LT's. I love em. But age and swing speed dictates I need to reshaft. I want to go light. Is this the answer to more clubhead speed?

Its not that binary. It could help a bit, but it may actually hurt depending on timing, impact on quality of contact, etc.

No magic pill for higher swing speed - like anything else, gotta put in work.

It's possible lighter shaft might help but there is no guarantee. There are also other potential problems that may (or may not) occur with the swing when a player make a big change in weight.

Only way to find out how it will specifically effect you is to try it out. Lots of stock options now with lighter shafts you can demo. Bring in your 6 iron (or whatever iron you want to demo) to a local retailer where you can demo the stock. Try your club side by side with something with a lighter shaft but keep in mind that you are comparing clubs with a different heads. You can look at club head speed differences and see how the lighter shaft feels to you or if there might be any issues with less control or accuracy or tempo.

I have DG's (S300) right now. Tried some Rocketbladez with the (R) 85g shaft. Swing speed with the 6 iron was 78 mph average. Pretty consistant with a low of 75 and high of 80. Switched to Rocketbladez Tour with KBS (S) 125g and the average went down to 73 mph. The launch monitor said my carry was 180 with the 85g. 167 with 125g. I could really tell with feel the I could move the 85g much better. I did not do a head-to-head with my RC LT's. That should probably be the next step.

Secondary question: Are my RAC's too outdated? The feel is outstanding. However, distance seems to lag.

Distance may have been lagging due to differences in lofts (and possibly length). To see how much you'd have to compare the specs. C.G. differences can also contribute to some additional launch angle and possibly distance. And there will probably be a little bit more forgiveness (and less loss of distance) on off center hits for some (not all) of the newer irons.

How 'outdated' that might make them then becomes largely a matter of how much you might need that extra forgiveness and how well you strike the ball.
