Wilderness Club...anyone else play it.

Grew up in Montana, my wife is from Eureka, needless to say I have played the course. Just curious if any other WRX'ers have played it. * I know it is a LONG way to nothing, other than a beautiful area.

 

I have played it every time as a single and not sure if that is why, or because I have shot very well on the course, or something.... but I have put that course in my top 10 and I feel I have played a numerous amount of excellent courses (public and private). Did not expect it to be a top ten but some reason when I think of courses I have played it pops out.

I live in Kalispell and have played it 4 times...best course in Montana but it's just in the middle of nowhere...It's a Canadian destination along a place for them to purchase a cabin a play golf from time to time...One bad hole and I think it's 12...par five down the hill just seems out of place with that tee shot.

HAHAHA I agree 12 did seem a bit odd as it has such a huge drop given the tee shot. Though I did hit few balls from the top to try and reach the green, was a cool shot. I think 9 was somewhat the same. My tee shot was right at the top of the hill looking down on the green and pool area.

Funny before it was course, the cabin that can be rented (Lodge) was the location for my wedding reception LOL. YEARS back but I find it funny how different it is now.

It is a place for Canadian's that is for sure. When I played last July I do not think one of the cabins / houses out there had an American flag. All Canadian, I guess lucky as not sure who else would keep such a great course open given the location.

I agree on the both accounts. That shot into 9 is funky. Definitely one that requires experience in distances. I haven't played a lot of elevated shots like that 150' drop into 9.
My favorite hole on the course is the 3rd par 5. Should be so easy, but it isn't.

If someone is reading this thread and thinking why would I drive up there? I agree it is the best course (I haven't play RCC) in the state.

I'll have to make the drive down. Have heard good things about it from friends that go annually. Any truth to rumours of financial difficulties/bankruptcy?

[/quote]They were having troubles but a Canadian group purchased them a few years back and now is back on track with all the Canadian visitors.

I liked Olde Works but IMHO Wilderness Club is the best in the state. RCC is nice but I guess I just expected more.

Don't get me wrong Jack did a great job at Olde Works but Wilderness club was built to be a private country club and the market crashed so had to open up to public to keep it alive. Good for us "common" folk.

As previously stated an investment group from Canada purchased it.

The Par 5 3rd.... YEA I seem to bogey that damn hole every time and yes it SHOULD be easy. I always seem to get caught on the bunker on the right side of the fairway off the tee and kills me.

I am in Missoula. I don't get up there often, and usually it is a guy road trip, but dang is that a great golf course.
And yes, IMO, better than Old Works.
