Tour 18 Houston

Has anyone played Tour 18 in the last couple of weeks? We are thinking about playing there Monday, but I'm curious about the conditions. I've played it when it was in great shape, and I've played it when it was in abysmal shape. I'd rather not spend the money on holiday rates out there if it's not in great shape right now. It's been a year or so since I was there last.

Played it on Saturday and Sunday, the course is in pretty good shape. Greens aren't too fast, but they are pretty firm.

Do they at least have good grass on them? I don't care if they're particularly fast, I just want a decently smooth putting surface.

Well, booked a tee time for Monday afternoon, so I'll post back after the round.

Green fees are $70 through their website. I went on golfnow, and they were $69, lol. There was one tee time for $50 at 2:32, so I booked it.

Well it's a Arnold Palmer Golf Management course so don't expect too much. IMO, they like to keep the greens and fairways hard and spotty and don't like to use much water on their Houston area courses. I'm sure Arnold would be appalled if he knew how the guys leasing his name ran courses. Let me know if its any different.

Even though I understand what you guys are talking about in reference to the condition of T18 going up and down, we've played it quite frequently in the last 4/5 yrs, and the last couple yrs they've been pretty steady in keeping it real nice, the fairways have been great, as have the greens.

Bigred, you'll enjoy it out there, let me know if I'm incorrect about the condition, as I've slacked off playing this year and havn't been out there yet, but I remember talking to you a while back about Evergreen and Battleground, and even though those aren't bad, T18 should be a lot better, the Fairways are plush. I can say, even though I know you are playing on Mem day, that the prices have really gone up, we were playing there several times a month, and could always get on a weekday for $20/$25, and on some weekends for that in the a/noon, I didn't see anything on there for close, they must be filling the ttimes up a lot better now.

I'm a member at evergreen and play most of my rounds there. Right now, the fairways are unbelievably lush, but the greens are all but gone. The super is doing everything he can to bring it back, but has very limited funds to do so. This winter has wreaked havoc on a lot of courses, and give. The financial state at evergreen, the course has suffered greatly. The bunkers are basically clay with maybe 1/4" of sand, and the most of the greens are about 30% grass/70% dirt, and bumpy as you would think. They have put fertilizer a couple of times, and punched (small 1/4" tines) & sanded a couple of times, but the it has only helped a little. With the temps staying low so late in the year, the grass just hasn't grown like it should. The soil temp needs to be 70 or above (at night) for the grass to grow, and only in the last couple of weeks has that happened, which as you know is not normal for this area. I think that within the next month it should be pretty good, but it is pretty sad right now.

well you just talked me out of going to Evergreen any time soon. which is sad. It used to be my home course. Bay forest on the other hand is really shocking to see. Fairways could use a little love (some dried out spots) but the greens are in remarkable shape. They water at least 2x daily and have a super who seems to know what he is doing. fairways are hard (summer months) and you get big bounces and plenty of roll but the greens have some stopping power.

How long ago were you a member at evergreen? Is imagine I probably know you from there. I've been out there about 6 or so years.

no, I was never a member there, but when my dad and I lived in Baytown, we would go there every weekend and that was where we played. been playing out there ever since it opened. good friends with the Hazelwoods and Marti's

Tour 18 w as in phenomenal shape. Fairways were lush and the greens were smooth. Far better than when I played it last year.

Old thread, from Dallas and played Tour 18 Houston today. It is in great shape right now. Packed! Pace was slow, but course was great and fun

Played today and I have to say I'm impressed by the bounce back of this course. Last time I played there, it was going to the dogs. Their new owner is putting some money into the course and it shows. Refreshing to see they are reclaiming portions of greens which were shrunk by the previous management crew.

I played it about a week ago. It was in good shape. Last time I played it was about 3-4 years ago and it was getting run down.

I played it a few weeks after Harvey (end of September). Course was in fair shape, you could tell it was wetter than normal. Many of the bunkers were still washed out. Cart path only.
