Looking for courses near Breckenridge

Heading to Breck in late July and planning on two full rounds with family. I know Nicklaus has a 27 hole track in town...is it nice?

I've heard raven at three peaks in silverthorne is nice, but are there others (copper, keystone, etc) nearby that I should look into?

I really like red sky and cordillera, but they are over 75 minutes to the west, and the ladies will kill us if we burn a full day on golf!

Anybody have recommendations?

TIA.

The 2 courses at Keystone are very good, definitely worth a try. Both strong tracks but I like the River mostly because I'm a trout fisherman also. Short trip over the reservoir from Breckenridge. Vail courses are nice with many options but like you said a good drive. Check out Beaver Creek if you make it out that way. Lots for the familiies to do there. Enjoy.

Hey Jayhawk,
I personally have not played any of the mountain courses in the Breckenridge area. I have heard great things about Breckenridge golf club. Actually, I've heard great things about all the courses in the mountains. Keystone has 36 holes (The Ranch and River courses). The River course has lots of elevation changes. If you do not want to drive all the way to Red Sky or Cordillera, look at into some of the other courses to the east in the Vail Valley (EagleVail, Beaver Creek Golf, and Vail Golf Club.) I wish I could give you more information about the Raven as well, sorry. Another thing you might want to look into is the Colorado Golf Passport if you plan on playing several rounds. It's $80 and gets you pretty sizeable discounts at some of the courses (Vail, Raven, both Keystone courses, and Breckenridge).
Hope this helps!

I played 18 of the 27 NIcklaus holes in Breck. Very nice. I also played Raven at Three Peaks. LOVED it. Awesome elevation changes on a few holes at Raven. Haven't played any of the other courses in the area, but I would highly recommend both of those.

The courses in Summit County are for the most part wonderful to play.

The Breck courses (3 9 hole layouts) are beautiful. Tough but manageable. gorgeous vistas. well maintained.

Raven in Silverthorne has some spectacular elevation changes and is one of my favorites. Keystone's two courses are both worthwhile. The River, perhaps the tougher of the two and plays like a mountain course. Ranch more of links style on the back 9 and can get windy especially in the afternoon.

Copper Creek does not have the cachet of the others. Because of its high altitude it is more difficult to maintain, especially the greens. Tight fairways due to lack of sufficient real estate (it winds around the mountain). Also can be problematic in terms of pace of play. No good practice facility either.

Check out courses in Vail and Beaver Creek. I've only played BC once but liked it alot. May need to be staying in the resort during peak summer months in order to play.

hope this helps.

Breck is a good track. It's located in the valley near the 10 mile range, so the view are incredible. However, if you want to play golf ON the mountain, head over to Keystone. They have 2 courses there, the River Course and the Ranch Course. The River Course is nestled on the side of a mountain and has some spectacular holes/views. It's probably my favorite course in Colorado. The Ranch . Course is a good track, but it doesn't boast the views that the River Course has and if I was paying, I would just play the River Course. Silverthorne has The Raven at Three Peaks. It's a great track with awesome views as well. It's a little harder than the River Course in my opinion, but either are my top choices.

If I were you and was wanting to get some mountain golf in and had two rounds to play, I would definitely make one of them at the River Course in Keystone. Summit County is my second home and these golf courses are incredible out here. It's really hard to complain about hitting poor shots when you have 13,000-14,000 foot mountains surrounding you. If you have any specific questions about the golf here, PM me and I'll be glad to answer them!
