Need recommendations for some San Antonio, best bang for the buck, courses

The wife is attending a conference in S.A. next week (7/8/14 thru 7/13/14) and I'm going

to tag along and play a few courses. I'll be by myself on Tues but have a friend that's coming on Wednesday. So here's what I'm hoping my fellow WRXers can help with, I'm looking for some good public courses in the $50 to $100 range that would be worth trying. I'm a 12 handicap so I don't feel like I have to shell out the big bucks to play a TPC course or soothing equivalent . I would pay a little more if there was a can't miss course since I am coming from North Dakota and probably won't get this opportunity again. Thanks in advance for all your help!

La Cantera, Hyatt Hill Country, and Brackenridge are all in that budget range move only played Hyatt but it was a really nice course. If you have transportation, Vaaler Creek was in great shape and is a little north of SA in Blanco.

Yup, was there last weekend. Perfect word to describe it is lush. It's also in the middle of the hill country, so the drive itself is nice.

I'll be in San Anton from the Middle of Sept through the end of Oct for a military school.

I want to try to play are the Quarry, Valeer, La Cantera, Brackenridge Park and the Bandit.

Does those 5 sound good are should I replace one or two with another?

The Bandit is good, but I think Brack is a little overrated. Check out Cedar Creek too, last time I played there it was in pretty good shape.

Just got back on Sunday and I played 3 courses while I was there: Brackenridge, Olympia Hills, and Tapatio Springs.

Brackenridge is a nice little muni, fairways and greens were in good shape, but it does play a little easy. The only knock would be there really aren't any holes that have that "wow" factor. The clubhouse is fun to look around in, lots of nostalgia.

Olympia Hills was a very fun course for me simply because of the elevation change on the front (that's not something I get to see often in Eastern North Dakota). Probably the most challenging of the three. The greens weren't in very good shape however, a lot of burnt off sandy areas. Still, the vistas make up for the condition of the greens.

Tapatio Springs is located in Boerne about 30 miles NW of the city and was in my opinion the best of the three. The course was in really good condition and moderately challenging. There were also a few good views and lots of wildlife to keep it interesting. If you run into a member named George with a Canadian accent be prepared for him to talk your ear off! Haha, Good guy though!

Hope this helps, and wish I could've played more while I was there but I found a spot on the Riverwalk that has liter beers so I got a little distracted, haha!

Im rolling in Sunday night. Im going to see if I can get onto the oaks course Monday. I hope they will allow me to play since weekdays are normally cheaper then week ends. It will be the only week day I will be able to get out on while I'm there.

great course, some blind shots from the tee but the course layout was nice. the greens and fairways were in great shape. I went in the dead heat last summer.

A buddy and I will be going out of town to golf the Monday before Veterans day in San Antonio. Looking for a nice course, challenging, clean and not too expensive. We're willing to spend about $40-45 a round.

Here's some courses we've played already in SA.

i hit the Bandit yesterday afternoon with a friend and it was a very nice course. it was really well kept up. the fairways were really nice and well cut. the greens were super fast and very true. the layout of the holes makes you think on your shot selection. great course. i really enjoyed the course if anyone is in the area.
