Oak Ridge/South Bluff-LaSalle/Peru IL

While in the area for a family reunion,I was able to play these 2 courses. Oak Ridge is a modern course and The Bluff is a course built in 1920,I think. Oak Ridge was in great shape with just a bad spot on the edges of the fairways. Greens were great, medium speed. Played around 6300 yards. Lots of doglegs and was hitting through the fairways. I would recommend playing here if within 1.5 hours.

 

South Bluff was in good shape. They were mowing and it looked like the first time in several days. They mow almost everything at fairway height. Fairways were still long after the mowing. Greens were in good shape but the slowest I have ever played. South Bluff has a special place in my heart. It was the first place I went golfing over 30 years ago and on this trip I played with my 89 year old grandpa and 5 year old son.

 

Anyone else played these courses and would like to hear other opinions about them.

I grew up playing all of those courses: Spring Creek, Oak Ridge, the bluff, Edgewood, Mendota, Deer Park

The bluff is usually at the bottom of the pack when it comes to course conditioning but I think all of them are fun courses to play.

I'm a member at oak Ridge and love it. I play from the tips and it makes it a 6800 challenge. The greens roll true, and the course forces you to play every iron in the bag. For the money I would say best course in the area and I play all over this area.

BC, I have played all the courses you mentioned except Mendota. I remember playing Edgewood with a gentleman that had to be around 90. He didn't hit the ball no more than 150 yards but straight every time. He shot close to his age. I was hoping to play Deer Park but it didn't work out. My uncle works out there and my other grandfather worked out there too. From what I remember about Spring Creek, its a fairly nice course. Whenever I make it back up there, I hope Deer Park and Spring Creek are in the rotation.

Some other courses I've played up there are Earlville, a course that is close to campground, Jellystone campground? and a course that had a runway through the middle of it for crop dusters.

Played Oak Ridge a lot in high school, went back there s few weeks ago with some buddies from high school and the course was in pretty decent shape. That is probably one of the nicer courses in that area.
