Completed a set of Walter Hagen's

I found a set of Walter Hagens and I'll share some pics.

 

They are Haig (star) Ultra Contour Sole from 1962. I knew I needed to fill in the set with the missing 9 iron so I searched for that first. Found it on Iron Finder and decided to pull the trigger on the rest of the irons.

 

This set is comprised of 2-PW. A lot of times the PW can be challenging to find and the set had one in it. So I was compelled to obtain them.

 

They have the Hagen Pro Flex Regular Flex steel shafts so they will be under-going a re-shaft to Stiffs.

 

Viewers will notice that the 9 iron that I acquired - from another source is a tad worn on the face and sole - but more so on some of the chrome but the grooves are fine. I'm considering a re-chrome of the set but will ponder over that option for a bit before I make that decision. As mentioned the 9 iron is the one that needs it more then the rest of the set and this is what happens sometimes when one is filling in a set with a matching iron that comes from another source.

 

One of the pics is not that clear so sorry about that.

 

You will see that they have two red lines on the back and a star and these two features distinguished these Ultras from other years of production. Also they have pinned shafts.

Nice job Bull, I have a bunch of Hagens in my collection but no complete set of 2-9 or 2-W. I keep finding strays and putting them in the hoard just in case my next quest completes a set for me.

I'll be curious to hear how the reshafting goes and whether they're screwed in like the Wilson's and have a slightly smaller hosel. Look like great clubs, tho.

Nice find. Walter Hagens are definitely clubs that were made with the highest quality back in their day. In fact, they re issued a set of forged blades and cavity backs sometime around 2000-2005 that were forged in the US.

It's my first set of Hagen's and I liked the look of them too.
Nothing wrong with picking up odds and ends as one never knows when the others will show up to complete the set. The longest it has ever taken me to fill in a set was about 7 years or so. Hopefully that won't be the case for a couple of clubs I'm looking for now.
I think that when a shaft is pinned it usually is not be screwed in. But I have a Hogan E wedge Bounce +1 that was screwed in. The only one I ever found in a Hogan.
What I have noticed is that the Hagen's do have a nice finish to them.
I forgot to mention that they have leather grips - like a lot of sets from back then.

Have not seen very many full sets of these '62 Walter Hagen Haig*Ultras

Am still looking for a RH '62 Haig*Ultra Sand Iron.....

But it was a special order, and everyone wanted a Wilson Sand Wedge-

Anybody got a ;62 Haig*Ultra Sand Iron? If memory serves me, the "Fluid Feel" stamp is on the sole....

i know i had a set of haig ultras in the late 60s or early 70s and i liked them a lot...

they played great and very similar to the wilson staffs which i also played with for a while...i would definitely have them rechromed..
