Omaha NE reccomendations for Course/Practice

PeteNC

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I will be traveling to Omaha NE for the foreseeable future for work. What are some good public options for golf layouts and nice practice areas? Looking for a course that is championship level +-7,000 yards or so and practice areas that have good grass to hit off of, greens that are cut down, and a chipping area.

I did do some initial research and Indian Creek looks nice.

Thanks in Advance!

I like indian for practice, and I like the course as well. They have 27 holes which is nice. You can sometimes find deals for indian on golf now as well. If you are near indian, you won't be disappointed with the practice area.

What area will you be in?

My favorite courses around are Quarry Oaks and Bent Tree.

Quarry is set near the platte river, and you won't find a single cookie cutter home on the course (or any home for that matter) Los of hills, lots of trees. Beautiful course. I've yet to meet anyone who didn't enjoy the course.

Bent tree is in council bluffs. It has a lot less trees than quarry, but is a fun track. Less trees more grasses.

But quarry oaks is halfway to Lincoln, bent tree is in Council Bluffs. Out by Quarry is Iron Horse, but while it's nice, it's the same cost as quarry for a lesser course. Also out there is woodland hills. It's a fun course, used to be an incredible deal, but they raised prices a little. Not terrible, but edging into the range where I'd rather spend a little more and play a nicer course.

Courses in the city that are good are Johnny Goodman, Willow Lakes, and for me, Pacific Springs. (I live within a block of the course) On the other hand, one of my golf buddies on here doesn't like pacific springs.

If I want to stay close to home I would pick indian creek over the others around (pacific springs, tiburon, stone creek)

The private courses around are shadow ridge, players club, champions, omaha country club, and some others I haven't played.I like the first three, and omaha cc was the host to the champions tour recently, so I'm sure it's nice. Champions hosted a nationwide tournament for a long time, but they don't host it anymore. That all being said, quarry oaks is (in my opinion) better then all the privates.

Will you be located downtown, or west, east, north, etc? If you let me know it will be easier to determine what courses are near you.

I do want to mention that if you are willing to drive a little, western nebraska has some truly amazing courses. Sand hills, dismal river, prairie club, wild horse, and a few more (sand hills is one of the top courses in the nation)

I played prairie club two years ago, and it was absolutely incredible. Best golf experience in my life.

PM if you have any other questions about Omaha.

+1 for cvvorst

I live near Indian Creek and Stone Creek and Indian is the go to for a challenge. Quarry and Iron Horse are both challenging and offer many shot-making opportunities and are relatively close. Iron Horse tends to be less populated when I've went, maybe a bad sign of times to come. And welcome to Omaha!!
