First round of the year, How did you do?

I was so excited to get the year started off great and what a disappointment!!! I did think I'd be rusty and I was. No distance control on any of the feel shots, chips, pitches, etc. The greens are obviously really slow and bumpy too. Really hard to score. I don't think I got one putt to the hole over 10 feet in length. My swing changes are looking pretty solid though. I hit the ball well but my trajectory is very high (use to be mid to low) which is what I'm after except now it's too high, I've never played with someone who hits the ball as high I do now. I'm in need some club tweaking for sure, low lofts and high kick shafts. Maybe I'll even break out the 2 iron again.

So did anyone really light it up their first time out? Lets here about your troubles and tribulations so I don't feel so bad!!!

Played pretty much as I expected.... Fairly bad, but there were some glimmers of hope. Plated "sim-golf" over the winter, so I wasn't completely rusty, but real life is sooooo much different! My weakest areas continue to be driver, and surprisingly, my chipping. You'd think chipping would be simple, but for me, I manage to muck it all up!

First round of the year was on a spring trip to Kelowna. Did well, shot a 76 without knowing the course (Gallagher's Canyon).

Would've been a number of shots lower, but lag putting/mid pitches/and other "touch" shots were a bit off.

Full swings still felt good, but I haven't really stopped swinging the club at all.

Good start.

I shot somewhere in the mid 90s. it was a terrible day of 150 yard duck hook drives and fantastic short game.

Shot an 89 from the tips at Disney's Magnolia course. Its important to note that the tees weren't where they are for the tourney on all holes, so the course was only playing 7200 yards. It rained on and off hard during the round, and I airmailed some greens thanks to some offseason weight-lifting (and the fact that I never played there), so all and all I didn't think I did too bad for the first time out.

I am sure I did the same thing a lot of you did - waited till the weather was just above freezing, bundled up, and headed out on the course. I didn't keep my score - I was just so happy to be back out there again. Now that we're back in the 70's here in Indiana, I'm back to where I left off. Took a few weeks, but I'm looking forward to the summer.

A little pointer to those who are about to head out for the first time - go to the range first. After sucking for a few rounds early, I spent a few days there and on the putting green. That really helped. Plus I always feel that I learn something every time I go there.

Most of you guys shoot scores that I'm working my a** off to shoot but until then...

I went out on an AWESOME day here in NJ, it was 76 deg, and just beautiful.. I shot a 90, but it really should have been an 83. I lost an easy 6 strokes on the front because of the aerated greans (worst greens I've played in 5 years), plust I played a couple lies where I should have taken a drop (fairways were tore some as well), but I really wanted to shoot honest so I played the lies as they were. In the end, I screwed myself out of a Low 80's score, but I scored what I scored 90 ;).

Played a week an a half ago, shot an 89...but my back was all f*d up and the 1600mgs of pain reliver didn't kick in until the 10th hole..so my back 9 was a 41 with a 7 18 and 2 3 putts on the back.

Never keep score on my first round but played a little better than bogey golf. Usually my driver is streaky, my irons are solid, chipping is so..so and putting is bad. First round, driver was money, irons were absolutley horrendous ;) , just brutal, really bad, chipping was so..so, and putter was great. WTF By the end of the round it was almost paralysis by over analysis with an iron in my hand, just not fun. Besides that it was a great day 65 little wind, no humidity, and no bugs.

My first round back most of my shots were pretty awful, except for chipping. I spent the winter driving my family nuts chipping against the basement stairs...CLICK THWACK THOOMP Thoomp thoomp as the ball would hit and then bounce all the way down, for half an hour at a time sometimes. Anyway, though I had no idea of how far those shots were going, it helped me practice form and proper contact and my chipping was actually better than it has ever been.

I've made it out 4 times so far (play weekly in a golf league, 9 hole's only). Unfortunatly I've only had time for one full round and didn't get to complete it because the course doesn't know how to split people on the front and back......there was a three 4-some backup on the back 9...not including us.

Anyways, until this year, I haven't golfed in a couple years, and my eyes light up when I see the scores you guys bring home. My lowest so far, my 2nd time out, was a 43.....that's only for 9 holes lol.

Critique:

Driving: Umm...I don't use a driver...how's that? lol (Can't keep it straight, my goal for this year)

Irons: Hit them well, reaching 170 + yrd par 3's with my 9 iron

Chipping: Much better these past 2 weeks, have choked up more and swing through further

Putting: On and off and usually what kills me. Did make a 25+ put to save my butt for par yesterday though (not something good to admit).

At the end of the day, I love it, it's a challenge and I love to see my improvement...and sometimes lack there of.

Yo

I hope the rest of the year is like this...kinda'! Buddy of mine and I went out inbetween Noreasters up in NH. Shot an 86, but one of those good 86's. Ballstriking was better than in prime of last year, and we honestly looked at the card after, and went hole by hole, and accounted for 10 shots apiece given to the golf gods because of zero freakin touch on or around the green. Seriously the putter felt like crap, and the wedge game was scoopy, you know really trying to help everything up in the air kind of thing. Anyways put new set together from Golfsmith and so impressed I am personally shocked. I just wanted it to be a something to do over the winter to keep busy project, ended up being one of the best club sets I ever played. Put a 3 wood together and I stripe it with like a 3 yard fade, sits pretty and the flight is awsome, never, ever out of control. Driver rusty because I wanted to belt it every time, but thats just timing. Hope this weekend is nice up in the friggin arctic called New England

Final round last year in September: 92

First round of this year: 85.

I really felt that some of my bad habits that I had last year weren't even there once I got on the course. I guess I am just a spring player. Of course, I also putted relatively well, and I had a couple huge drives. I even birdied the hardest hole on my course. Here are my high school scoring averages:

Spring: 81.3

Fall: 85.7

I have always played better early in the season.

Ping G430 Max KaiLi White 60 Stiff (9 degree)
Cobra King RAD 3 Wood Fujikura Motore X F3 Stiff (14.5 degree setting)
Mizuno CLK Hybrid (19 and 22 degree, I swap them out depending on the wind in the parking lot)
