There's a picture from the first Capitol Cup at Pine Ridge where the Cup and the USA flag are in the foreground and the first fairway is travelling away.

 

It's a really beautiful starting hole, really.

I love standing on that tee box, getting ready to head out into the course. It's nice mojo. It travels right away from the big porch. No getting shuffled out the side door, or being moved away.

 

I like the first tee shot at Hobbits, too.

 

You could almost get a GTF2 out of this : favorite and least favorite starting holes.

 

I hate Hampshire Greens starting hole. . .different zip code. Bullsh1t driving hole.

For a course I like, the first hole at Waverly doesn't do much for me.

Then, after you've striped your tee shot the max length of 230 yards, you're presented with a choice - Go for the green from 250 yards, or lay up into a postage stamp size piece of fairway you can't even see that will leave you an obnoxious blind uphill shot to the green. Strategic golf at its finest!

serious question: is a sunbrella different from a rain one?

Yes. A good number of rain umbrellas offer little to no UV protection. Some sunbrellas have reflective surfaces to deflect/not absorb heat and not just keep you in the shade.

Shot 6 over today on the back. I had one three putt and once again no lost tee shots. I pulled the driver out on a long uphill par 5 that is wide open and snap hooked it into a safe spot and still got par. Playing smarter off the tee, believing in my abilities when chipping, and staying loose over the ball has made a huge difference lately. Anyway, that 9 makes for a combined round of an 80 (10 over)! My lowest this season or last!

 

For giggles I hit a second tee shot with my new M1 430 that I picked up off of here. It was crazy long and dead straight. Only thing I changed from the other 5 par I hit it was moved it back in my stance a bit (about 1-1.5 balls). Going to the range early in the morning to practice chipping, pitching, and putting (especially within 5 feet). Will probably hit some with the driver to get comfortable with the ball position too.

Getting out tomorrow at 7:15 in OC. Couple of guys I haven't played with in about a year. Hoping for dry conditions. I get June and July to play before soccer ramps back up. Taking my Class E license course in August and might be an assistant to the high school team this fall. Not sure I'll be able to stay up for the USMNT game tonight though.

Why? At least if you are a big hitter and can hit it 250 you can go for it in 2. On #4 you are boned either way. I guess the layup isn't as stupid though.

Exactly. The only dumb thing about 4 is the limitation to how far you can hit it off the tee. It's a relatively straightforward layup and wedge to the green from there.
