Small stress line in hosel from bending

Have a set if staff fg62 bladesive never used bought new couple yrs ago bent pw tnite noticed a hairline stress mark on hosel. Damn ! Anyways will this compromise playability ? Will hosel be as strong as before ? Maybe its just in chrome ?

Doesn't look good.
Normally after bending when marking shows it is often just a crease in the chrome plating. From the pic it looks like the actual hosel is cracked. Not sure how it will effect performance but I guess it will probably get worse with use.

I think you're going to have to determine if its a crack in the chrome plating only, or in the hosel itself.

Those are forged, correct? I wouldn't think a forged iron would crack so easily. They bend fairly easy compared to a cast club.

How far did you bend it? Did you keep the bending bar as close to the ferrule as possible when bending?

I've seen kinks but never something that looks like that, I'd have that checked out for sure.

I was taught to have bending bar as close to bottom of hosel as possible. I bent it 3 degrees flat.
Yes they are forged.

I have read and seen pics in maltbys old repair book of having irons tig welded anyone have success with that

are the irons as strong after welding

You could probably get it welded. But you would have to get the iron refinished afterwards as the welding would ruin the finish.

Your picture shows this on the inside of hosel. Very strange. Could be the chrome

hit it and you should know; if the hosel is compromised, it would likely feel junky no matter where you hit it. If it's just the chrome, no big deal.

Good advice above. I would just add that to my mind it might be worth contacting Wilson about this. If the club has clearly not been abused, they might be willing to look at this as a QC/warranty issue. The chrome on a new club shouldn't crack on a 3* bend, and the underlying steel absolutely should not crack. A couple of years on from purchase, and you might be dependent on some goodwill from Wilson, but especially if the club has never been hit it may be worth trying to see whether they'll treat this as a manufacturing defect.

I tend to agree with Mr Moore on that from the photo it seems to be a plating crack. If it is cracked you can pull the shaft and send it to Maltby to be re welded and chromed. there is one other method I have done in the past and it is not pretty but it will work for some time. If it is actually cracked you can take a thin cutting wheel on a Dremel and score the crack a little in other words notch it some and fill with clear epoxy. It is not pretty but it will work

It's a lot easier to bend a sapling from the top than from beside the root.
