Hybrid for the better player?

Yellow Jacket

Or is it a 5 wood I want?
I'm not looking for something to replace my 2 iron, but something to compliment it. I currently carry an 18* Burner from the '91-'94 era but it's got way too much bulge and roll.

So, is there a hybrid without any offset and the least amount of bulge and roll? I just want a club I can hit out of the rough or a shoddy lie and land soft that's in between 3 wood and 2 iron distance. I went to Golfsmith and looked at a number of hybrids and they all looked awful from address. Maybe it's a 18/19* fairway wood I want?

Did you look at the Titleist 503? How about the Sonartec md?

The 503 is too much of a iron for me. I haven't seen any pictures of the md other than what's on the website, and although it doesn't look too bad, it's a bit expensive.

If you're looking for something solid out of tough lies and the rough, I've had more luck with my Callaway 5+ than I ever had with a hybrid of anytype, but to be fair, i've heard the best things about the Sonartec MD and I've never hit one of them, but I've hit several Sonartec 3 woods and they were very solid. But I'm 21 and I still hate to have a 5 wood in my bag, lol. (but i guess its what ever works)

From what I have seen, the MD has alot of offset

The MD does not have a lot of offset

Go for the MD, you won't be dissapointed. Personally I find a 5 wood blows up too much when playing into the wind. Even fiddling with shafts does not prevent this. You can get a much more powerful :idhitit: flight with the right shaft and loft of an MD.

Great for round the greens too :cheesy:

I think what he is looking for is a Hybrid wood not Driving Iron.

IMO this is the best Hybrid for the better player. The Mizuno UX2. It has a deep face for a low penetrating trajectory and a neutral weighting. It is nothing like the CLK, completely different material, carbon crown, tungsten weighting inside not to mention made 100% in Japan, even steel shaft options. :idhitit: Its worth a try if you are into seriously killer equipment:

to the original poster how do you like your nickent..what distance do you get deck/tee

48262[/snapback]

I'm not orig. poster but I have a Nickent with the same shaft as my irons.. it's a 17* 2 iron.. I hit it 215-230 off the tee and 210-225 off the deck depending on ball flight. Compared with my iron set 2 iron at 18* it is maybe 10 yards longer. If they were the same loft I would guess the nickent is 4-8 yards longer than the iron.

Srixon AD Hybrid. No offset, great feel, and smokes it 5-wood distance with 7-iron trajectory. Pretty easy on the wallet as well. Nickent 3DX is a very close 2nd.

I have owned a Great Big Bertha Ti Fairway 5 Wood (18º) and a Havenwood 2h (17º). I was never able to really use the 5 Wood out of the rough, I just couldn't get it to cut through the grass. The 2h was ok, but it always felt aucward to use vs the 3h that I have that I cannot live without. My wife purchased a Big Bertha 2004 5W (19º) and I had to try it out and to my amazement, this club is great out of the rough, fariway, whatever. It has the same warbird sole that the Heavenwoods have. I was so impressed with it, I sold my 2h and ordered a Callaway BB'04 5W. Worth giving a demo.

Thanks,

Everyone can turn up their noses, but one ought to try the NEW

Adams a2 hybrids. They come in 16,18,20,23 lofts.

If you like a heavy feeling club, these are not for you.

But if you want something that is very handsome -best looking hybrid ever -forgiving, crisp and light feel off the face, then try them. Comes with an NV 85 Hybrid Shaft (for Adams).

If you want solid with a heavier feel, Mizuno CLKs are the best value on the market. I just like the Adams better because I like a lighter and lighter feeling club so I need something to do with 2 CLKs.
