Ben Hogan club catalog

I have been a lifelong Ben Hogan fan and have been thinking about getting some people together from WRX to compile a difinitive catalog for all Hogan clubs etc. I'm sure lots of you have already seen Jim Kaplans MacGregor & Wilson catalogs, that is what needs to be done with all the Hogans.

Let hear what you are thinking....

Yes there are lots of guys with knowledge and I hope we hear from them. I know Teevons has everything, the knowledge, history and the clubs! We will need their help.

how did the kap;in books ever get published in the first place? i have often wondered . i was very suprised when i came across my kaplin mac book. of course i am all for a hogan version

dan-

Ironmaster Oddities spoke with Kaplan about a number of items, and may have the answer to this.

Teevons has more than common knowledge about the Ben Hogan Golf Company, and has compiled a number of Hogan ads from magazines. At one time, he was asked about the publication of a Kaplan style book on Hogan.

More than likely there are some legal issues, as well as time.

Charley Penna has commented not to accept Kaplan catalogs as dogma on MacGregor, as there are some items MacGregor manufactured that would never be found in them. George Peters collection has LH models where the Kaplan catalogs blatantly stated Right Hand Only.

Ben Hogan Golf Company was primarily RH Only, and did not make a LH iron model for five years (custom ground iron set for a player in Canada- Teevons had them). Hogan didn't offer a LH iron until 10 years after that, and not a single LH persimmon wood. None of the popular RH Hogan irons mentioned here (Decade, PC, BH Grind, Redlines) had a LH counterpart, even though LH Hogan staffer Sam Adams won the 1973 Quad Cities Open with a set of LH Apex irons.

Would love to see a Ben Hogan Golf Company Catalog compilation, but has the current Ben Hogan Golf Company even offered a LH club- even in 2017?

Update- As shown by the included Ebay auction, Ben Hogan's Slazenger Division in England offered LH Precision Irons in Stainless Steel, as well as Persimmon woods (only the 2Wood is included). Ben Hogan Golf Company in America did not offer any Persimmon woods or Precision Irons.

I still play my Hogan’s. Currently use persimmon apex driver from 1992 with a gene sheely designed black graphite #4 shaft as well as a 3 wood from the same series. Irons are all apex red lines from 1988. I have gone thru 4 sets through the years and have been lucky enough to find new, never hit sets on eBay over time. Earlier this year found yer another new set. My wife plays the same only her woods are #3 shaft apex steel and #3 shaft red lines. Bettinardi bb18 putter and Becu 56* sand wedge. Looking for new “S” redline wedge as mine is wearing out. I’ve played rounds with many other clubs over the years but have never had the magic feel and dead spot on accuracy that the red lines give me. I understand why hogan said something like when you strike the ball perfectly the feel goes into you hands, up your arms and into you soul (or heart, maybe). I’ve found that since balata balls became extinct, finding a ball that doesn’t feel like hitting a rock to be difficult, but have found the Wilson duo soft spin to feel and play much like a Titleist tour balata 90.

I also have hogan 40 year anniversary Legends, a set of the 1972-78 apex, hogan ft. Worth forged from 1992; hogan grinds from 1990, hogan channel backs from 1995....all in pursuit of a better feeing set of Hogan’s as well as just in case I ever lose, destroy or have my redlines stolen. I play to a 4 handicap.

Would love to find a 1988 hogan catalog, I have one from ‘92.

After contributing to this thread over 2 years ago, we attempted to contact the following PGA Professionals, through the PGA Headquarters-

PGA Professional, Teacher, and former MacGregor Staff Member Bob Toski-

PGA Professional, Teacher, and former Ben Hogan Staff Member and LH golfer Sam Adams.

To date, though we included return envelopes, we have not received responses from either of them.

Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
